How Do i remove the Panasonic PT-47WX54J circuit

Smart move, trying to remove the boards from the frame is dangerous and there is another more simple way.

Here are detailed instructions:

1. Unplug set
2. Remove entire back cover
3. Remove front speaker grill; it will pull out but not easily and it is held in with plastic pegs molded into it.
4. Behind the grill note the two silver 1/4 inch machine bolts the protrude and remove both of them--note where they go.
5. In the rear of the set you will find 4 more; two at the extreme back edge of the plastic frame--they go straight down, remove them.
6. There are two more bolts; one on either side of the frame going forward---remove them and note bolt lengths are different.

7. You will if you look note three sets of wires coming from the front keyboard (looking from the back); 1 set goes to the tiny board up at the top near the large lens.

8. The one that goes to the tiny remote receiver (up at lens) does not have to be unplugged from the main board. Follow the other two down to the main board---mark them and where each goes and unplug them.

9. Two more plugs from the speakers come in (one from left and the other from the right) note where they each go and unplug them.

This set uses what is called a light box--everything except the speakers and front keyboard are contained in it.

10. You will note hand holds on either side of the metal box at the top----use gloves as the metal edges are sharp! Lift up slightly and pull the entire box out of the set.

11. The entire box comes out and you can place it on a table to do whatever repair you have in mind. LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU ARE AFTER AND I WILL GIVE YOU ADVICE--I HAVE FIXED HUNDREDS OF THESE SETS AND KNOW THEM WELL.

With the box out you can still turn the set on with the remote pointed at the top of the lens---remote receiver is there.

Depending on what problem is I may be able once you get the box out to save you some trouble.

The Box can be safely laid on its side so if there is soldering involved it can be done without taking any board out of the box.

Please ask first if you have questions.

Let me describe something and you tell me if it is what you have:

The set turns on but nothing on the screen at first; after up to a minute or two you see a band of white or funny color top to bottom on the screen or towards the right side?

I gather red power light does not go out of blink?

Think about my description---if that is your problem I can tell you exactly what part causes this.

No raster or sound on my Panasonic PT-47WXC43 TV.

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. You’ll have to check the power supply board as the issue could be because no voltage is being supplied to the Horizontal Deflection Circuit Boards. You can use the multimeter to check the voltage with ground as reference point. This issue can also be due to a bad power supply board. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Thanks

Cant turn off captions

Closed captions can come from two places only.

The set in its own menu has a setting/option for this--check to make sure captions (usually CC1) is not selected.

Also if you use ANY kind of box to supply signal to the set, the CC can come from that also--use the box remote to check for this--if it is engaged select off or something other than CC!.

If the box is causing it and you cannot get at it contact your provider who will have to tell you how to do this.

The closed caption can only come from the set or ANY EXTERNAL BOX providing signal to the set.

If this information gave you an idea how to resolve your problem rate this solution as "very helpful" as I do this for free.

Let me know if I can provide further help as I am here to help you.

We recently had a problem

This may be a convergance issue. You could have a faulty IC chip that is causing this. However, you should still have sound. Usually when you get the red light, then the flyback or power board is faulty.

Blue offset shadow of images is present, so

If you try to adjust convergence with the flash focus, perfect focus, (depending on the make of your set) or by manual convergence and the lines will not line up or even move. Your symptom sounds like a damaged convergence IC.

Scince it is stuck in convergence mode you may have to reset the television set before you can set up the basic convergence after the repair.

If you want to repair this set yourself, I have some instructions below that will be a help to you.
While it is not a very hard repair, this repair can be a bit tricky. If you have a 45W soldering iron, solder, solder wick, heat sink compound, and some basic soldering skills, you can repair the television yourself.
*** VERY IMPORTANT NOTE***

If your set is not producing a clear picture and the colors are not lining up, do not continue to watch the set as this can lead to further failure and possibly damage the individual CRT’s in the set.
I have repaired hundreds of these sets, so if you have any questions after reading the following, please reply to this post and I will help you in any way that I can.

With that aside I have some support suggestions that I have put together that may help you make an informed decision.

You should be able to get a local service center to repair this at your house for between $350.00 - $450.00, If you want to repair this set yourself, I have some instructions below that will be a help to you.
While it is not a very hard repair, this repair can be a bit tricky

How do I tell if the IC’s are damaged?
Since you cannot look inside of an IC, you will have to locate some of the components in the area around the convergence IC’s. You may be able to see some resistors that have changed colors or you test a resistor and it no longer reads the value marked by the color bands or the printed value. You will have to replace the IC’s and the supporting components.

When you remove the old IC's, please be sure to remove all of the old heat sink compound, as it can act as an insulator for the new IC's and cause them to overheat. I usually clean the heat sinks with alcohol and a small rag.

Where are the IC’s located and how do I find them?
There are two and large IC’s that control the convergence in a big screen set. Some of the newer sets only have one. If you only have one, it is right in the middle of the set on the center circuit board. They are secured to a very large aluminum heat sink. They will have a part number stamped on them that will start with an STKXXX-XXX, like STK392-110.

Along with the convergence IC’s there will also be some associated components that will need to be replaced as well. There are some resistors that are part of the convergence circuit that will be open and need to be replaced. Most likely these will appear charred in the center. If you have an Ohm Meter or a DVM, check all the resistors that are close to the IC’s and you should be looking for either ones that have opened or have changed values.

If one of the convergence IC’s are found to be bad, I would replace them both, if one has gone bad the other may go soon. I usually order my parts from Andrews Electronics in California, they will have the OEM components that you will need.
Their site is
http://www.andrewselectronics.com/welcome.aspx
And their phone number is a 24-Hour Order Desk: (800) 274-4666
I recommend the phone order so you can talk to the person about the different types of IC’s that are available.

I would also advise that the convergence IC’s be OEM or better, just because they are cheap does not mean that they are a good deal. I have seen the cheap IC’s fail after a short time, even though they look exactly like the OEM IC’s. I think that the bottom line is that you will get what you pay for when it comes to the parts.

You can also try
http://www.tvrepairkits.com/ , they do carry OEM or better parts. When you order from them you will get a kit with instructions on how to do the repair, step-by-step.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue.

Blurry,double vision, color is off.

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. The issue is with the failed convergence (STK) ICs which needs to be replaced. It’s not a difficult job if you want to do this yourself, you should require some basic knowledge about soldering-resoldering components. To start with you’ll have to open the back of the unit and then replace the ICs (STK ICs) which are located behind the black heat sink and also check the resistors as if they are short the ICs might blow again after sometime. There are repair kits available which includes repair instructions with the parts, if you want to do it yourself, you can buy and repair it yourself. Please do rate the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

I have purple & green shadows on my panasonic

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projeciton sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.

42d3683.jpg

7859b01.jpg

e87380c.jpg
Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the settings menu then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move RED and BLUE in all directions - up, down, left, and right. And you should be able to get the grid straight.

If you can't move them in all directions or cant move them far enough your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Note: If you TV has as flash focus or magic focus button only try pressing the button. If it fails to fix the convergence your need to fix it. See below for a fix

69189a5.pngCONVERGENCE SOLUTION

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses.
This is a a fairly easy DIY job if you are handy and can follow directions. You can get complete repair kits from TvRepairKits.com or click here. They have put together DIY repair kits that include the OEM parts and step by step photo instructions for each repair. If you are not handy or can't follow directions we would suggest calling a shop.
