The flashing light indicates a diagnostic state called protection.
When the TV goes on protection there are only two possible causes.

1The internal circuits are jammed because of electrostatic charges accumulating on capacitors, or because of a wrong voltage read by the main chip on your monitor controller board. this started the protection circuit.

2 The protection circuit detected a wrong voltage or abroken contact, identified an internal fault and kicked in , starting the flashing light.

If you are in situation one, then the TV will reset just unplugging power cord for one or two hours,sometimes even minutes.

If you are in situation 2 , then there is an internal fault.

If under warranty contact the manufacturer ringing the number on the user manual

On LCD Pay particular attention at inverter and power board, power board can be inspected looking for bulged or leaking capacitors, then tested with a multimeter. The inverter is more difficult to test , there is need to read voltages, should be done by a tech. Also the LCD controller board can cause same problem

On Plasma, test Sustain (Ysus/Zsus) / Buffer boards , cables to plasma, digital board and power board.

On Rear Projection : check lamp, lamp ballast, power board, and convergence.

On CRT TVs, check ballast , flyback transformer, CRT, Tuner, Convergence.

sounds like the tube has gone any good tv repair shop will be able to replace it cheapley.

same thing happend to me. KV-32HS420. first happened while my laptop was plugged in through SVideo port a month ago. hopefully the laptop did not cause it.

problem has progressively gotten worse (no laptop since). basically the picture turns reb/blue only for extended periods. dips back into normal picture, then back to red/blue.

The 7 blinks indicate an over voltage condition. The high voltage section has exceeded 33,000V. This is generally caused by a bad regulator. I don't have a listing for your model, but there should be a multi-pinned IC attachd to a heatsink marked STRxxx located close to where the AC cord comes into the set. Post the actual marking here and I'll get you the part number and cost. That is the regulator that may be the problem.

Your tv does not need a reset,what happened something went bad inside the set and it needs to be replaced,if you are familiar with tv service you can start by checking the horizontal output transistor for a short,if he went bad it likely made the fuse or safety resistor open.If you are not too familiar with tv service be safe and call for assistance froma servicer.If you decide to go in looking for problems make sure the set is not plug in.Let Us know how it goes or if you need more information.

The next time it goes out, count the flashes that the timer light does and thats an indicator of what is failing. Here is a chart of said flashes and there codes.

This effect will happen if the CRT (cathode ray tube) final voltage is dropping from its normal voltage, which is 25KV or may be more for a very large tube. Either the Power supply cannot supply enough power, or the tube is taking more current than it is designed to do. Too much brightness will cause this, so try reducing the Brightness and Contrast. There may be Gamma and Saturation as well to adjust. Try setting to a default position for these parameters. If the swelling effect is still present, the tube may be taking excessive current due to being `soft' ie: gassy or contain some air. Make sure the TV is clear of dust inside as this will create extra heating. Make sure you have the correct mains voltage setting. If this problem persists the line timebase will eventually fail. If you unplug the TV, remove the back, look for components of the line timebase. Make sure the line output transistor is properly fixed, so that it is being cooled by its heat sink. If you are not familiar with what to look for you must find a service engineer.

Check for unit posting any blink codes on the timer LED. Google "sony blinking codes" for the explanation. Try turning unit off for 4 hours to force a hard reset of your set, you need to unplug it. Sounds like a low voltage problem in the HV circuit.

This TV is 10 years old and probably requires a service that replaces the backlight invertor or just a power supply issue. Check to see if the light blinks. (That is the fault code and then google the result for more information).
