Sanyo DS31520 31" TV - Page 7 Questions & Answers
I got a sanyo tv model DS31590 that the cable
As long as the tuner that the connector plugs into is not bad/broken then you can re-attach the connector by soldering it to the casing
file or sand both surfaces before soldering and attach a cable to the connector to help dissipate heat while soldering(so the plastic center of connector is not melted) I some times use cold spray (a can of computer duster turned upsidedown) to cool the joint quickly, immeadiatly after soldering.
Good surface preperation and a hot soldering iron (45W or more) are key to doing a good job
Sound only ,no picture when vcr connected, checked
How have you connected the VCR..vis Scart or UHF cable?
Has your tv got more than 1 scart socket if connected this way.If so, have you tried using a different scart inputon the tv?
Has the tv got picture and sound when vcr is not connected?
All these answers help with the diagnosis :)
I have a Sanyo DS31520 31
You will need to replace two capacitors, 160volt 1MF and a160 volt 4.7MF locations c408 and c607. And if the picture is two narrow replace R401 and R407, IC601 [str30130] ,Q402[2sd1880] This will correct picture size..You are off to a good start....as for the sound I don'remember the value or location of the bad resistor..might be located near IC 601..This will give you a good place to start the repairs. I always clean inside a tv with a leaf blower to reduce dust that will be in the way. Be careful..very carefull when working with high voltage.
I have a Sanyo DS13590
you need to replace the voltage regulator and the horiz out transistor on the main board
Closed Caption won't turn off
The following should solve your problem if you have a comcast digital cable box and possibly for others.
Hey, it's worth a shot!
Turn the TV Power on and cable box power off.
Press the MENU button on the front of the cable box.
Scroll down to the caption item on the menu and toggle it to "disabled"
Press the menu button again to close.
Hope this helps!
No picture/sound
It is not likely your picture tube especially if the picture was good b4 it went dead.
Read below and decide if you want to tackle the problem yourself if so I’ll help along the way with what info I have. If not contact the nearest repair shop armed with the info below.
A dead set (no picture no sound) can indicate any number of problems – Usually the set is in shutdown or protection mode – this means that the internal circuits have detected a problem with a supply voltage missing, drawing too much current, going over voltage or a short condition.
The first thing to do is power off the set unplug it for 5min. than replug and try again. This in effect resets the main micro and will sometime unlatch a fault and resume working. There are certain common problems based on the make model – for instance convergence output IC’s(CRT projection TV’s) can cause a dead set symptom in many models. Vertical output IC failure can also cause the same symptom (CRT standard and Projection).
The only way to determine the real cause is :
By an educated guess based on experience or by directly troubleshooting the set – checking fuses, measuring voltages and checking for shorts. Many of the intermittent problems such as, int.(Intermittent) no sound or picture, int. picture shrunken or misshaped. These problems are generally due to cold (bad) solder joints (all TV’s and electronics) that break down under slight temperature changes or vibration and are usually verified by physically tapping the suspected area on the circuit board, or by quickly heating or cooling a suspected component or area ( cold spray and hot air gun). The other main culprit is leaky or dried out capacitors or capacitors that change value depending on temperature. These can sometimes be seen as bulged or leaky and have an acrid odour.
Lightening strike
reset may not be of much help if it took a spike from lightning. ( short answer NO! Invest in a spike arrester extension plug when u get it fixed.

Lightening came in on the cable, is there a reset
Yes, however the pcb could be fried due to the high voltage, need to have it checked by an approved engineer and contact your insurance company if insured
Never take the back off the tv unless you have safety training, it can still have voltage inside even with the tv turned off
Dark picture cannot be adjusted
try you contrast and brightness levels, if that doesnt work maybe your AV jacks arent all the way connected, check your connections on the back of the tv
1/2 the screen has a purple tint to it
It could be a purity error, this is where either the TV is sitting too close to something with a magnetic fied such as a loudspeaker from a sound system or just an internal build up of an excessive magnectic field. You will need to contact a repair centre as the TV requires to be de-gaussed which is a straight forward & quick repair, but needs a special tool (a de-gauss coil) to do the job. If this does not cure the fault, then the PTC device insode the TV may need replaced. In severe circumstances the cause can also be a fault with the CRT & this would need the tube replaced.
I have a Sanyo and it has a horizontal line in the
You have a frame collapse, if you had previously been tapping it to come on then it sounds as if there is a dry solder connection most probably on the frame IC or surrounding component. If you are competent with the use of a soldering iron, then remove the back & gain access to the underside (circuit print board) of the TV. Look for an IC that is attached to a heat sink & carefully resolder the pin connections. Look closely at the surrounding solder connections & if any of them look dry then re-solder them also. Without knowing the model of your TV then I can't be more precise as to the specific component location. If you do not want to attempt this then a local repair shop should be able to easily fix it for you.
My RCA TV went blank and has a high pitch noise.
it's probably not the tube. Sounds like something is shorting the B+ from the power supply. Could be the Horizontal Output transistor or the Flyback transformer. Do you know how to find these components? I could be a rectifier diode on the secondary of the power supply as well. If you know what you're doing check those with a meter. If you don't know what you're doing, ask someone who does.
Good Luck.
My 2005 Model HT32744 Sanyo has cracking thunderus
To check if its cable or circuit failure, try to fed your TV with audio from a dvd or cd player and observe it for a long time.If the still the problem occurs then the problem is in the your TV circuit. If not the problem is in your cable connection.
