Velocity Micro Cruz Reader R101 Tablet PC - Page 7 Questions & Answers
If i try to root the cruz ereader r101 and it
Yes. Flashing the ROM does the same thing as updating your firmware. You are simply updating your firmware to one that isn't the original. All you do is load up the file from the velocity website onto your SD card and flash and you will be back at the standard ROM.I suggest Macho ROM or JGM if you want the android market. Both run overclocked if you so choose which is much faster. JGM also has a vanilla rom (and there is and improved vanilla rom) which gives the tablet bare-bones applications if you want it to be just a reader. I would follow the method for flashing jgm. It lays out how to set up app2sd and all that.4shared.com allows you to download apps that are not found in the market or whatever after you have rooted. Simply search the name of the app and put .apk at the end. Be careful as you can get malware from this. This method breaks copyright laws as all apps on it are offered for free and I only suggest it to download apps that are free on the market...
I want to download books onto my cruz but everytime I try to sign in it wont let me. do you know why??
Did you make the account on your computer or on the device? If on the device try logging in on the computer. If it doesn't log in on there then attempt to recreate the account. If you cannot I would suggest contacting customer service. If you are unable to log in to either service and you can log in online you may want to delete them and go back into the market to download them again. Obviously make sure you are connected to the internet. A generic fix that should be done is to restart the device. Finally I would look into rooting the device and flashing the ROM so that you can try some other software for reading. Although both KOBO and Borders are nice alkido reads all formats including PDF's.I personally don't use kobo or borders but you may need the desktop versions installed to have them link to your account.Hope something here helps, you can follow up with some more information or troubleshooting you've done which will help the community in assisting you.
I start my Cruz Tablet but after it shows the
Shut the device off then pull the SD card from the top slot.Download the firmware from Velocity's page (download a new one even if you did it to make sure it wasn't somehow corrupted).link:
http://cruzsupport.velocitymicro.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=5758Copy the new firmware to the SD card and replace the existing file that has the same name. Make sure that the file doesn't have (1) after it or anything it should appear just as it does on the page from Velocity.Eject the card when its finished copying and put it back into your tablet.Start the tablet launching it into the ROM flashing mode: hold the power and volume up button at the same time.CONTINUE holding these buttons down together to launch the new firmware.Once the installation begins you can let go and you should be reflashed back to the initial set-up.This is the same process you'd use to flash to a customized ROM (lets you do a lot more with the device and is worth looking into MACHO and JGM are two of the best. Vanilla is also good if you're not looking for the android market). If this doesn't work you can try pressing the reset and doing the same process. If none of it works try it a bunch of times (reflashing). I thought I bricked my device before and kept trying eventually being about to reflash and fixing it so don't give up if you're not successful right away. Finally if nothing else works try returning the device. Hopefully you're under warranty and you will be able to get a replacement. If I helped show it! Goodluck

This is a "solution" that has worked for a number of similar problems. Try it at your own risk; if at all possible, contact Velocity for warranty support.
1. Place a towel on a table and put the Micro Cruz face down on the towel.
2. Slide a tiny flat head screwdriver around the edge of the back to remove the paneling.
3. Unplug the battery for 5 seconds, then plug it back in.
4. Boot up your Micro Cruz
This is a common solution to the symptoms you described, but you may find you have a more serious issue due to the fact you were using it and it unexpectedly shut off.

Hi!

You can also try reseting it (use a small safty pin or paperclip in the reset hole) or remove the back cover and carefully unhook the battery from it's balance connector, wait a few minutes and rehook it back up and try pressing the power button. I am using my cruz tablet to write thus right now. Good luck!
I can't get wi-fi connectiion
Welcome to Fixya
First, make sure that WiFi is enabled on the Cruz Reader. From the Home Screen, select Wi-Fi Settings and ensure that both Wi-Fi and Network Notification are enabled with green check marks. After your unit search for network, your Wi-Fi networks list should populate. If you need to rescan, tap Menu> then tap Scan.Detected networks will appear with a SSID to the left, a status line beneath the SSID, a signal strength icon to the right. Those that are secure will also feature a padlock. Tap the network you wish to connect to, then click Connect. If a password is required, tap the text field for the popup keyboard. If you need to configure a connection manually, choose Add Wi-Fi Network> enter your router's SSID> select security type if any and enter password> and Save. Once the Cruz has successfully connected to any SSID, it is saved. When that SSID is no longer available, it is listed in the Wi-Fi networks list as "Not in range, remembered" in the status line.

My Android Cruz Reader R101
This sounds similar to something that happened when I tried rooting my android phone. If it's the same thing, that means you will need to go to recovery mode and install an update.zip package that you can find somewhere online for it. It's because the code for what's supposed to happen after that screen is overwritten and it doesn't know where to go.
