Sansui VRDVD 4005 Recorder

I've had this problem myself and a list of others. FYI, I've found it easier to use dvd-rw discs
for any mistakes you might make. Use Video mode (not VR mode) if you want to watch them
on a Computer or other DVD again and you have to Finalize disc. As for your problem, if all
else is okay, try removing your disc and unplugging the unit. I've done this numerous times
for odd reasons something wasn't working right. I'm not sure how long you have to keep it
unplugged. Try 10 minutes and you'll have to wait 30 minutes or more if you want the clock
to sync up on its own but you can set the clock manually. I've done this for a blinking
REC light in the VCR mode after trying the TIMER REC button.(it shouldn't be blinking
when the unit's working properly) This gets to be a pain and I've had to do this sometimes
2 days later or 6 months later. It's not a perfect unit. By the way, if times an issue, reset the
clock manually as soon as it starts blinking. This will cut your reset down to 11-12 minutes.
Hope this helps.

Transferring a VHS tape to DVD.

First - be sure you have a DVD RECorder unit and just not a playback unit- It must say recorder on the unit and your manual --
You need DVD-R dvds only to put into this unit.
The instructions are involved and include 5 steps--
1. Format the empty disc.-done automatically when you put any empty disc into the unit.press yes
2. Put on VHS mode on -remote-light VHS lights up on unit
3. Press Dubbing on the remote and press yes
4. When finished press stop on the remote- wait
5. Finalize the DVD- this must be done p. 27 and 28 in manual or see info in my other solutions.
All this process is in the manual on page.76
Have fun DD

Setting the clock

Use an Aiwa Hifi Remote Control...Turn on the L300 (without any DVD on the player). Wait until in the TV appears "No Disc" Open the tray and put a DVD from other region (not zone 1), don't close the tray!!!. On the remote control of the Aiwa press the "Clock" button, in some remote control you must do a button combination like "Shift+9" (Is the combination to see the clock, do the combination fast), and in other model of Aiwa remote control doesn't appear the clock button, you must try with the "random" button. If you do it right, in the corner of TV where "No Disc" appears it will say "adjust complete".

Loses programing

It has a microprocessor that is supposed to keep the settings. What is happening is that the microprocessor is not holding the configuration, or the configuration is not being saved as it should be. This could indicate a bad microprocessor or a failed state maintainer circuit. In both cases I would suggest that you take you unit to a qualified electronics repair shop.
I hope this helps,

Not unless the DVD machine is a DVD Player/recorder. However if you have a PC you can record the Video to the PC and then take the video convert it to mpeg2 or mpeg4 and transfer these to the DVD recorder on your PC as a movie. Most DVD recorders come with software that lets you do this.
Thank you,

Disc Error

Try to clean the read laser and the laser pickup, by using a DVD cleaning disk. If this does not work you may have a misaligned laser or pickup.

That may sound like a canned response and it is, however it is a good start. I would also check the format of the video on the DVD-RW, and make sure the DVD player is set to display that format.  Also might I suggest that you try the documented Disk loading instructions. I know that sounds stupid, but I was working on a customers DVD player one day and I downloaded the manual, and I was shocked to find out that I was not following the recommended loading procedure, once I did that all of the disks worked (stupid? yes, but that's how things are now).
As I said try to clean the pick-up and laser, check the format of the DVDs, and then follow the recommended loading instructions.

I hope this helps
Thank you,

Shuttle83
