How to test if stk 395-570 convergence chips are bad
What you need to do to test the chips is check the fuse for each of them. Fa 4 and fa5 I believe. If the fuses are open the chips are shorted or drawing excessive current.
If you had been viewing lines on your screen for awhile this is the next level of that problem.
If the fuses are open ,your getting a code flashing on your TV and it's not turning on.
Those chips have to both be replaced even if your just at the lines through the picture stage of the problem.
High skill level required or lots of guts and even more patience.

MAGNAVOX #42MD459B/F7 TV POWERS UP BUT DOES
please make this test and fix it. God bless you
You simply need
a screwdriver (Phillips-head) and then follow this guide:
- Reset component settings. Usually, the
problems you encounter with a projection TV may be resolved through the resetting to
its factory settings. If you experience inaccuracies in the color, reset
the television's PerfectTint/PerfectColor capabilities. Simply press the
Menu tab and then highlight "Perfect Color" using your right key arrow.
After this, press "Enter" and then "Reset" in order to reset to factory
settings. If you have audio / video problems (VCR or DVD player), simply
press "Menu" and highlight the "Reset" option.
- Reset television controls. In case you
cannot fix your TV via its component settings, there are other ways of
resetting. Just select "Menu", key in "1, 2, 3", and then press
"Enter." In doing this, the TV's manufacturer's specifications will
all be restored. If your TV's power system does not function, you should
perform a complete system reset. You can do this by clicking on Reset
System button located at the TV's control panel. Your television will be
turned off and then a green light (LED) will quickly flash for
approximately one minute. Once the light has stopped flashing, your TV
should immediately turn on.
- Use your remote control.
The first step is to inspect the batteries of the remote control and see
if they are functioning. If its power button starts to blink several times
once you turned it on, then the batteries need to be replaced. See to it
that your remote control is used within about 20 feet from the television.
Make sure also that nothing blocks the space between the remote control
and the receiver.
- Check the fan. Once the television is
turned off, it is just normal for its fan to become louder. A projection
TV actually depends on its lamp, which requires cooling so that it will
not prematurely burn out. If the room where your TV is placed is very hot,
the fan would also continue to run.
Replace
projection lamp. To
properly do this, make sure that the lamp's bulb has cooled down and the TV is
unplugged. Carefully remove the cover of the lamp's compartment using your
screwdriver (Phillips-head). Unscrew the sealed part of the lamp that can be
found at the television's rear part. Take away the old lamp cartridge and then
insert a new one. Seal the lamp with screws, replace its cover and then screw
tightly.

My Mitsubishi WS-65809 turns on and then off after 4 seconds
First to be sure, unplug the set from power and then plug back--this clears the error buffer. Repeat the self check: PRESS AND HOLD "device"(input) and "menu" buttons on front of tv for at least 5 seconds and then release both together. Watch for power light to blink in a sequence: 1 blink-then 2 blinks-------no error 2 blink-then 1 blink-------X-ray
protection 2 blink-then 2 blink-------SHORT PROTECTION******* 2 blink-then 3 blink---------deflection circuit problem 2 blink-then 4 blink---------vertical circuit problem ******2, then 2 is most common---usually means one of the fuses that protect the Convergence IC or IC's is blown---set will detect no voltage to convergence IC and shut down. SET WILL REPEAT BLINK ERROR CODE UP TO 5 TIMES AND THEN TO GET IT TO REPEAT MORE YOU HAVE TO UNPLUG SET AND TRY TO TURN ON AGAIN. As you can see 2,4 is vertical problem----might want to remove speaker grill, inspection plate behind it and look up front--vertical is on middle board at right front as seen from front of set.Look for ANY tiny drops of clear liquid which damages parts and is toxic-----glycol is what I would look for first.

2 blink-then 1 blink-------X-ray protection
You have two of these or one set with different problems, If you got this error the set will of course not come on and stay on.This like some error codes is general in nature---set produces over 20,000 volts to fire the three picture tubes, hence high voltage. If the High voltage goes above a certain point the latch or shutdown circuit detects this and shuts the set down to prevent X-Ray radiation which happens if the picture tubes receive excessive High voltage--straightforward and needed, locating the part is almost certainly a shop repair.I would on this model suggest removing power from the set which clears the errors detected and stored and then power up and try to turn set on again---when it fails check for the error code with the self check again
