Onkyo TX-SR701 Receiver Questions & Answers
Its an onkyo av reciever
Hi,
The receiver doesn't have a password, but the unit can be fried, let's go with by a process of elimination.
First, the most noticeable procedure would be to not plug in anything in back of the receiver, and plug it in the an outlet and turn it on. If the unit shuts off after a few seconds, then the unit has a short and must be sent in for repair.
If the unit stays on, then there is something that is being plugged into the Receiver that doesn't seem to agree. Start by plugging in one source at a time and repeating the step above. It's a slow process but hopefully and eventually, you will find the culprit.
In most cases though, it usually the speakers wires in the back touching even a slight bit or your speakers impedance don't match what the receiver is capable of taking.
I strongly recommend starting with the first step since this will allow you to figure out if the receiver is defective or is something else the culprit.
Hope this helps, Best of Luck
It was gaven to me
Wouldn't any device that required a password presuppose it come up far enough to communicate with?
Generally speaking, an amp attempts to protect itself from heat, shorts, overloads and operator exuberance by refusing to turn on or stay on.
Overloads can be from excessive periods of high output or marginally low impedance loading by the speakers; and shorts would be wiring issues or a speaker blowing up.
You should be able to feel if it's hot. WHY is it overheating? Make sure it has sufficient ventilation on all sides and that vent holes are not blocked by dust balls. Ensure the fan (if equipped) is running as designed (some only operate on demand). Clean dust and debris from it.
If the amp comes back on after cooling, you're lucky. They only have so many self-protection cycles in their lives so continuously resetting or cycling their power without addressing the cause can do more harm than good.
If it protects immediately on a cool power up you should disconnect the speaker connections and try it 'naked'. If it comes up then diagnose which lead(s) are shorted. If it does not come up the problem is internal and should be left to an experienced and competent hands-on tech.
ONKYO TX-SR701 - Hi When
Register and download the manual for free at retrevo.com
http://www.retrevo.com/support/Onkyo-TX-SR701-Receivers-manual/id/365ag222/t/2/
7.1 would have Surround Back L and R.
6.1 would have just one back there (SB). It defaults to the Left output on the Pre-Outs if you ever go that route.
This being a 6.1 receiver it does not support two SB channels BUT you can configure those amp channels for a separate Zone supporting 2 speakers. Confused?
The manual shows a single SB speaker connected to the left side on Page 27. THAT would be consistent with a 6.1 configuration.
I am not getting sound
The acoustimast is your problem. Get rid of it, get a powered sub and connect speakers straight to unit.
I KEEP GETTING THE MESSAGE
I want to confirm that you have access to a user manual. If not refer
this site. on page 23 it gives the setup procedure for zone 2. Once you are clear on which of the zone2 configurations you are using, you should do the "hardware config" setup accordingly.
Hope this helps.
The receiver wouldn't turn on. I unplugged it and
hello,
what you need to take care of is the connection of wire from the receiver fix the wire one after the other and make sure there are well fixed
if you are using RF wire make sure that the one with yellow is well fixed it of three color ( Red , green or blue or white and yellow) make sure that there are fix in their color
But if the connection is a serial wire then you will need to take note of the pin hole that they are well position
thank you and thanks for using fixya.
Onkyo TX-SR701 Digital audio port stopped working
you may want to try a factory reset by pressing and holding vcr1 button while pressing the power button. do this with the unit on. It will reset back to factory default. so any saved setting will be lost and you will have to set again to your settings.
I have an Onkyo TX-SR701 that won't turn on
The fuses are the first look, Then make sure that the speakers are connected properly and the wires are not shorting together. It sounds more like a power supply problem or logic controller problem if the unit will not fire up and as such unless you are into electronics then a repair center is the next option and most likely the quickest.
0-83 error on onkyo tx nr 555
The 0-83 error indicates a problem with the firmware update.
Try resetting the receiver's BIOS by following these steps2:
Unplug all cables
Un-Power the receiver
Power the receiver
Before the receiver gets into the "Enter for updating" message, press Tone + CBL/SAT + ON/STANDBY. This will show you either the volume numbers or get you into settings of the receiver's speaker configuration.
Press CBL/SAT + ON/STANDBY. This will clear the BIOS and show a "Clear" message on the display. Wait until you hear a couple of clicking sounds for the receiver to turn on and off the power.
