I used the SONY Blu-Ray hack with the one-for-all remote (7730) and it worked OK:

I selected the BD/DVD function after Standby, pressed the 1-5 buttons as per the instructions, and the 24p indicator flashed. After switching to Standby & back again, it played a R1.

Try this, found it on another forum whilst awaiting help on a problem myself. fingers crosses doing helps me as well.

By the way, two users out of two who tried this both said it works.

There is a firmware update for that model. Try updating it. If that does not help, you may need to send it in for repair or buy a new one. http://esupport.sony.com/US/p/swu-download.pl?upd_id=6665&mdl=BDVE300

You need to use a HDMI 1.4 Cable and it needs to be connected to to an HDMI socket with an ARC (audio return channel). Alternatively you can connect using an optical cable (TOSLINK).

It is possible that the amplifier had encountered a fault with a higher current drain which had triggered it to a protection fault condition. The fault can be with your output drivers. Please check for short on the outputs fitted for both the channels. Use a meter after disconnecting to check for short in the drivers. Disconnect the positive and negative voltages to the output and see if the protect changes. Even a fault in the preamp stages that drives in high current into the output can shut the Amplifier. Sometimes this can be a noise which can be a HUM or HISS before the protect works. Faulty capacitors in these circuits also can cause similar issues and needs close observation.You need to confirm and replace the specific stages or outputs. If not there can be issues in the mother board. Maybe the protect circuit by itself is shutting off due to a faulty bias or there is a leak in any voltage/current sensing circuit. Also disconnect the speakers and test, if the amplifier comes out of the protect mode then check for short on the speakers.

Did you figure this out? I upgraded firmware from 009 to 011 and am now having the same problem. Have had the unit for 18 months. Called Sony and they want me to ship in for 147.00 dollar repair even though their firmware upgrade caused the problem. Cannot operate disk now when trying to load a Blu-ray disk. Plays standard DSD's without any trouble.....

This is not a part that is typically replaced and is not listed on the standard replacement parts list. Try cleaning out all dust that you can see. Then, if you have access, try oiling the motor itself. Quite often all that happens is that some dust gets stuck in the oil and creates an imbalance.

Three things can cause this:
1) not all HD is recorded in surround sound. You can very well watch an HD program that just has Left/Right stereo audio. Tombstone on bluray is even only in Dolby 2.0
2) wrong connection is used. If you only use red/white analog stereo cables you will only get sound out of the left/right mains.
3) setting on the cable box is set to stereo and not surround. Changing this varies by cable box manufacturer.

See the below side of the set there is a hole use hair pin to eject your disc.Do not too much force on it other wise you will broken any part.
