Sony VAIO VGN-CS320J Notebook Questions & Answers
There is a colored line
Hi Veronica, Create a recovery disc if you have not yet created one.
Make backup copies of your valuable files, then try any of the following:
Restore system files from the latest restore point when your computer was working normally.
Uninstall software or software drivers which are not compatible with your computer, if you have installed such software or software drivers, or, restore the preinstalled software or software drivers to the originally factory condition.
Restore your data from the backup copy made with the Windows Complete PC Backup and Restore feature.
You cannot restore your files which you have changed or created after the backup.
If your computer still does not work properly, recover the computer system.
Another option, "after making a backup disk as above" is to use windows to reinstall all files back to factory settings.
Hope this helps.
Kind regards
David

My sony vaio laptop screen
This could be either a problem with the screen itself, or the cable inside the chasis connecting the two. You should try tilting the screen some back and forth and see if that aggravates the issue at all. Either way, you're looking at a $200+ repair if you go through Sony or Best Buy. Using an external monitor can sometimes be a good solution.

Was having an intermittent problem
Though your observations are explained well, I just want to clarify once again.
If you leave the adaptor plugged on for charging does the battery get charged up to display or show on display in the power options when switched on that the battery is fully charged.
Now if the adapter is removed does the laptop last much on the battery or does it drain off easily? If so the battery is bad and must be replaced.
Also if you are able to check the voltage on the battery terminals of the laptop and it shows a good reading then the battery is a suspect.
please check the link below for some tips on the power adaptor.:

My sony vaio laptop VGN-CS320J
From the details that you give it seems that the problem is the fan, it does not work well.
What you can do is to check if there is some dust accumulation by watching from the holes where the hot air should come out (usually on the sides of the laptop).
Then you can use a can of compressed air to clean it better and a vacuum cleaner, but not too powerful, to **** up the remaining dust accumulation.
After this, even if it does not work, you'll might contact the Sony support.

My laptop Sony Vaio CS
Remove the bottom pan to expose the cooling fan, clean all dirt out of the heat sink and fins, and clean fan, next remove the heat sink to expose the processor ic, remove the old thermal grease with rubbing alcohol, and apply fresh thermal conductive compound to the heat sink and processor, "not to much! just enough to cover the critical areas and assemble. In most cases this will solve the shutdown problem.

MY SONY VAIO VGN-CS320J LCD
Does it show a colored line at the bottom of the screen? If yes call Sony VAIO as that is known issue which will require repair at no cost. 239-768-7545
If not, does it happen in safe mode? You may press or hold F8 when unit is starting to enter safe mode. If it doesnt happen in safe mode it could be another program you had installed, I have seen this issue occuring with a mouse driver. Uninstall it or disable it from system config or start with clean boot.

I have missed my base
Hi,
You have mentioned that you changed the Windows OS but did not mention that which is the OS installed in the computer currently. For any OS, Base System Device error will show up in the Device Manager if Memory Stick Driver is not installed properly. The Memory Stick drivers are available for Windows Vista, 7 and XP for your computer model, please download and install the Memory Stick Driver form the Sony esupport website. This will resolve the issue.

My vaio vgn-cs320j makes a loud spinning noise
Usually Sound from Notebook are from CPU cooling fan and from Hard drive.
But It's hardly occur in the case of Hard drive.we called it Hard drive failure and the only solution for this is new replacement.
Your problem could be CPU cooling fan not working properly. Open the Notebook ( it will be easy if you refer to manual on how to open) and start the system now, you will be able to pinpoint what causes the sound.
Clean the CPU cooling fan with an air blower and re-check if the problem still persists.
If OK,then close the Notebook otherwise replace the CPU Cooling fan with a new one.
