Yellow blinking light on power button
A steady or Amber blinking power button indicates a low voltage problem. This can be caused by a defective power supply or a defective motherboard. Just to make sure that nothing else is causing the problem, remove any PCI cards like modem, video card, sound card, etc... Remove the memory modules and disconnect cables to CD/DVD drives. Look at the USB ports to see if any are damaged.
Loseing emails without deleting them
Sounds like you need to check your e mail preferences on the laptop, from what you are describing it looks like the laptop checks your e mail, sees that the messages have been downloaded or downloads the messages to the hard drive then tells the server to delete the messages. When you log back in on the desktop the desktop checks for new messages, see that certain messages have been deleted from the server then syncs the email to the server, which wipes out all the messages on the desktop. You might want to open up your device manager on your xp computer and click on network adapters and double click on your nic and copy down the settings under the advanced tab then do the same on the Windows 7 machine and change the values to the same on the Wnds 7 nic adapter.

Check speed settings in BIOS, make sure that the sticks are the correct voltage for your motherboard. If the specs are correct, try a program like memtest86. This will tell you where the problem is, but it is up to you to find which stick that location is :) Might take some trial and error before you find the defective one!

Couple of things to check. Make sure you software firewall has not been accidentally set to block this site. If you are using an Antivirus program you will find advanced firewall settings in the configuration section.
Secondly, click Tools on the top Menu bar in Internet Explorer, and then choose Internet Options. Re-enter MSN as your homepage and click OK, in the event the URL has been changed from your original page.

first go to the command prompt and see if you have tcpip communication by typing ping msn.com. if you see the ip address then connectivity is good. it will time out because microsoft is blocking ping requests. but if you see the ip as 207.68.172.246 then your fine. Then the problem it in your browser. either use a different one like mozilla, safari,opera or reinstall IE.
A rule of thumb in networking is always check your ip and your dns. make sure both are correct.

Could have been a RAM problem if you got 4 beeps and you seem to have resolved that by reseating the modules. But the RAM error may have caused some corruption to a file on the hard drive.
Assuming the diagnostics pass, you can reboot and press F8 before Windows starts to load. Select Last Known Good. If that gets you to the desktop without errors, shut down normally and reboot normally, and you should be good to go.
You may also want to run chkdsk on the hard drive:
Click: Start>run
Type in: chkdsk C:
Click OK
Accept the offer to run chkdsk at next boot and then reboot. chkdsk will run before Windows loads. It may take a long time, depending on size of your hard drive, so be patient.

the only thing to be aware of is the voltage cannot exceed that required for the laptop . for example if the solar panel puts out 12 volts you will need an adaptor before the usb connection to reduce the power to the voltage for the laptop
