try this- press the "menu/set" button, then " *2864 " . the *2864 you have to enter within a 2 second window, so you may have to try this more than once. when you hear a long beep, you got it. press "91". you should see "parameter init" on screen. wait for that message to disappear. unplug machine at this point, wait 5 seconds and plug back in. if it comes up with that error again, then you truly have a problem with your fusing unit and will have to have repaired. sometimes though, this error can be caused just by a power outage or fluctuation. if thats the case it should come back up to normal after you successfully do this procedure.

don't know if this will fix prob, but pull drum unit out and locate the piece of glass that runs right to left inside of fax right over top of where drum would be sitting. clean that off. if theres toner coating that glass, that will cause light prints or blanks. this is of course, assuming that you are getting these kind of prints from more that one fax.

Machine Error 77 is a problem with the temperature of the fuser. The fuser is the hot rollers in the back that melt the powdered toner into the paper, making your image permanent. It's temperature is regulated with a few feedback and safety features to shut it down in case the regulator goes haywire or the sensors stop working. The redundancy in the system is because a runaway heater could be a fire hazard. If any one of the sensors involved doesn't see the temperature it expects, it shuts the whole works down, and puts up an error code.
If this started when you pulled a paper jam out of the back of the machine, you may have accidentally unplugged one of the fuser's cables, but it's unlikely. If you did, it should be hanging in plain sight in the back of the machine.
More likely is that the fuser's heat lamp has burned out, or the thermistor that senses it has gone bad. Some machines have a fuser that can easily be pulled out and replaced, but this one is more difficult, and the teflon-coated rollers are easy to scratch or gouge. I'd recommend taking it to a Brother-authorized service center. Call first and ask if it's worth it.

The fusing unit and the parts around it are hot! Be sure to wait until the fusing unit has cooled down sufficiently before replacing the fusing unit. If you touch the hot parts, you might get injured.

1. Turn off the machine's power switch. To avoid injury, wait until the machine has cooled down sufficiently before you replace the fusing unit.
   
   
2. Open the back cover (1) and the scanner unit (2) of the machine.
   

3. To release the fusing unit from the machine, release the lock levers that are on both sides of the fusing unit.
   

4. Hold the handles on both sides as you take the fusing unit out of the machine.
   

5. Put the new fusing unit into the machine. Be sure to insert the fusing unit completely into the machine.
   

6. Secure the fusing unit with the two lock levers that are on both sides of thefusing unit.
   

7. Move the fusing unit pressure release levers to the Set position.
   

8. Close the scanner unit and the back cover.
   
   
9. Turn the machine's power switch back on.
   
   
10. Press the Menu/Set key.
    
    
11. Press the up or down navigation key to select Machine Info. and press Menu/Set.
    
    
12. Press the up or down navigation key to select Reset Menu and press Menu/Set.
    
    
13. Press the up or down navigation key to select Fusing Unit and press Menu/Set. The confirmation message appears on the LCD.
    
    
14. Press 1 to reset the life counter.
    
    
Caution
Please be careful when replacing the fusing unit. Do not put pressure on the fusing unit; it should go in easily. If it does not, make sure the fusing unit connector is free to move.
Do not apply force! It could damage both the fusing unit and the machine.

2. Press 1 to reset.

That sounds exactly like the sending fax is document is stalling, so a single line across the page gets sent for a few seconds. You can easily check your own machine's scan and print quality by putting anything in the doc feeder and copying it.
To test the print section alone, use the menus (or I think your model has a separate Report button) to print out the Help list.
It's possible that both your sending correspondents have slick, hard document feeder rollers, but you'd think they would have heard complaints from others. I can't think of anything at your end that would stretch out your prints, and there's no Bulletin about it on Brother's service website.
On the off chance you have a glitch in your machine's memory fouling it up, you can clear it out. This page has instructions for clearing out only the image memory (91) or all of it (01). It may or may not help, but only takes a couple of minutes to try.

hello, if you have already cleaned the contact image sensor, or cis unit, its located between both rollers when you lift up the top cover that has the buttons on it. sometimes, this cis/contact image unit fails, and will need to be replaced.

Open the document feeder. Inside you will find a grey feed roller. Cleaning this roller with a cloth dampened with water will help with these paper jams in the document feeder.

Fax Quality
1. If the faxes you are receiving are too dark or light, or ruined by streaks and splotches, play around with the darkness and density settings on your machine. Send a few test faxes until the quality looks good on your end. If the faxes continue to come out poorly, the problem probably lies on the sender's end. If you are the sender, and your documents are coming out badly on the other end, try cleaning the sensors of your machine with a damp cloth.

Make sure "Auto Rx" light is on. It may also be labeled as "Auto Receive".

Remove the toner/drum cartridge and slide the corona wire cleaning lever (green) back and forth several times. Re-insert and run a test. you may have to do this a couple of times.

Is the fax machine on? (Are the lights or screen lit up?) Make sure that the line going from the fax machine to the wall jack is plugged into the LINE port on the fax machine, and not the TEL port.

Try plugging a regular phone into the wall jack where the fax machine is currently plugged in... do you get a dialtone? If so, the problem is either with the fax machine or the way it is configured.
