I have a Bernina virtuosa

Never been serviced? Whoops, as an old tech, I'm not surprised, how often do you oil your machine and is it with quality Bernina oil or a light synthetic oil? Have you checked the bobbin case tension? As you are using two types of thread there will always be some imbalance of tensions best when you are turning corners to slow down your movement that will help a bit, but you may have to tighten bottom tension also another hint would be to use a Metallica or topstitching needle with a larger eye, allowing the upper thread to move more freely as the thread forms the stitches. if you need further help wayne Buss [email protected]

My machine used to free motion quilt without a hitch, now it is skipping stitches.

Basic Tips for All
  1. Always turn the handwheel TOWARDS you (counter clockwise) as turning it in the opposite direction (away from you, clockwise) may knock the timing out requiring repair from a service center.
  2. Always be sure your presser foot is in the DOWN position before sewing. Sewing with the presser foot in the up position will cause your thread to tangle and your bobbin to jam.
  3. Change needles regularly (after 16 hours of use) as dull/weak needles can cause damage to your machine and fabric. Only use SINGER needles on your SINGER sewing machine.
  4. Always be sure you are using the correct bobbin for your machine. Class 66, Class 15 and Class 15J bobbins look very similar. However, using the incorrect bobbin class in your machine can cause damage.

How do you adjust the foot pressure

There is a dial on the left side near the light that can be rotated to put more pressure or less pressure on the foot. If that is not working the spring inside may have become detached

How to adjust bobbin tension bernina 150

On the side of the bobbin case is a half moon shaped curved spring with a screw through it securing it to the bobbin case take the small yellow or red screwdriver that came with your machine and turn the screw clock wise to tighten and counter clockwise to loosen. Correct tension is achieved by inserting a full bobbin of thread, into bobbin case, remove the half moon shaped shuttle from machine, put the bobbin case on to the shuttle, now hold just thread and with a youo motion shake the above and the shuttle and bobbin case should slide down the thread about 12 to 24 inches for correct tension

Why is it that as soon as I plug in the foot pedal the machine starts?

The foot control is a simple device with a resistance value that, as the foot control is depressed, the value diminishes and the machine runs faster. The cause of an immediate run condition will be the result of the following: 1. The cable or plug has been damaged so as to connect both wires to create a maximum run state. 2. Most common to the foot control itself is that the actuator for the slide resistor is broken and stuck in the max run spot as well as having been disconnected from the on/off micro switch. 3. The foot control has been taken apart and improperly assembled. SewTechnical Home

Bernina sewing machines

Did you mention this specifically to the repairer? Could be a number of things ..... needle, timing, needle clearance to the hook, burred hook...... all of which should have ben checked when it was serviced. Was there a sample (sewn out by the repairer) with the machine when you picked it up? ie to 'prove' it was working correctly.

Fly Wheel won't turn !

I know a lady who had a machine and never took it out of the box until one day she did and itching would work- The machine had frozen up and she had to send her machine back to the shop to be repaired- it is always good to take a machine out and run it even without thread to get the oil moving around in it- probably once a year is fine but don't wait for several years.

The bottom seam is very loose

Try adjusting your tension to a lower number. Don't make large adjustments all at once. Also, using some spray air, clean out debris and threads from under the bobbin. Good luck!
