Hello fnintel, yes, if you are using the upright vacuum it should spin, ( the belt likely slipped off, or the brush is clogged with hair and the likes.)
However, if you are using the hose on the vacuum like a shop vac, some models bypass the rotary brush.
Good luck!
Not 100% sure this is the remedy for that particular problem, but I would take the time to clean both of the brushes that the belts operate, one on each machine.
Remove the brushes and clean as best you can. At the end of each brush there should be a small stiff plastic/rubber device that holds the brush in the sweeper frame. Clean these and spray some WD40 between the roller brush and each of the plastic parts on each machine.
If the roller is difficult to turn is just might be the cause of the belt moving off to the side.
Please feel free to message me if this does not solve your problem.

The belt may look fine but it's probably stretched out. Rubber belts are usually good for about 1 year. The tension of the belt is what allows it to turn under the strain of the carpet. Make sure the brushroll spins freely when held out of the machine. Eureka brushrolls are prone to melt down on the end caps. If that has happened you will need a new one.
Turn the vacuum upside down so you can see the bottom of the head (the part that comes in contact with the floor). There are screws that need to be removed so the plate can be taken off, remove those screws. Now the brush is accessible, lift the brush out just enough to slip the belt on then after making sure the belt is still on the motor, push the bruch back into its place. Then replace the plate and screw it back together and you are done.
If you decide to go to WalMart, look for the belt that says "Fits Eureka 5800 series...", it will list others too but as long as 5800 series is on the package it will work. Hope this helps!

Remove the base plate and remove the wheels and axle. Remove the hair and threads that was causing the wheel to lock up. You will need to use a box cutter or similar to remove the debris. Add a couple of drops of light machine oil and reassemble.

This can be because you need to adjust the tension or probably the pulley is no longer aligned. So find out if the shaft is no longer straight also if the belt requires tension.
Locate the filter compartment on the vacuum. It is usually located under the dirt cup or canister.
Remove the filter compartment cover by pressing the latch or pressing the button and pulling the cover off.
Take the old filter out of the compartment and discard it.
Place the new filter into the compartment, making sure it is properly seated.
Replace the filter compartment cover by aligning it with the vacuum and pressing it into place.
Make sure to properly maintain and replace the filter as recommended in the owner's manual to ensure optimal performance of your Eureka 4335 DX vacuum.
