Eureka Altima Upright Vacuum Model 2996AVS Vacuum Questions & Answers
Eureka altima bagless
I experienced the same problem of being unable to remove the dust cup. Inspection of the dust cup appeared to indicated two tabs on the bottom of the dust cup preventing it from sliding straight out as illustrated in the instructions. However, after much fiddling, I assumed that the dust cup with the tabs was probably a slightly different part than actually intended for that particular model (2996avr) and so decided to force the cup out, reasoning that if the tabs broke in the process, that was necessary for removal of the cup anyway, and therefore not detrimental.
HOWEVER, upon forcing the cup out, the cup broke away from a plate upon which it is designed to sit. The cup had apparently become stuck to the plate after much use without sufficient care and cleaning. The plate is what the tabs are attached to, and so by breaking the cup free of the plate, the tabs were not an issue, and the cup easily slid in and out of the housing, as intended. It was also observed, upon removal of the cup, that there is a very slight lip on the front of the plate to secure the cup in the proper position; this would likely act as an additional hinderance if the cup was also stuck to the plate by old cemented grime.

My vacuum is very loud ...
If it sounds really high pitched or like a airplane i would bet your motor is shot in which case it would exceed cost of your unit.
Eureka Altima (yellow)
the hose under your dusting tool, remove that and you should see the clog. i had the same issue and also found that the smell that is emitted went away after i unclogged it

It's a little tricky but here's how you get to the belt:
- Once you have removed the housing and the roller, turn the vacuum so that you are facing the pin the turns.
- Pull the belt to the back of the unit with your right hand so that the belt is against the pin on the front side and with your left foot apply pressure to the carriage where the roller sits. This action causes the plastic housing next to the pin to move toward the front of the vacuum providing enough space to slide the belt off easily.
- Be careful that you do not apply too much pressure with the foot.
Same problem removing the easy empty cup..
The dark gray plastic slide is separate from the Easy Empty Cup. Just slide the release tab all the way to open position, and then pull the Easy Empty Cup straight up.
With a little effort, the cup will dislodge from the dark gray plastic platter.
Can not get the dirt
I have a similar model but I believe the solution would be the same. My dirt cup wasn't coming out after turning the lever so I wedged a butter knife between the clear dirt cup and the grey plate under it and pried the two apart. With the knife pushed in between the two pieces came apart easily. Now the cup slides out with no problem.
