Uniden phone 5.8ghz

Make sure that you have caller id service from your phone company. If you do not have a different phone with caller id borrow a working one from a friend and see if it shows up on a different phone. Let a phone ring at least twice to give caller id time to work. If a different phone does not show the call information call your service provider.

UNIDEN 5.8 GHZ CORDLESS PHONES

Registering Handsets to the Base
Whichever handset you choose to charge in the base is automatically
registered to the base. Any additional handsets must also be registered to
the base before you can use them.
Be sure both handsets are fully charged.
One at a time, place each handset in the base. The charge/in use LED on
the base begins to flash, indicating the base is registering the handset.
Wait for at least five seconds, then pick up the handset and press
[talk/flash]. If the display shows TALK, the handset is registered. If not,
place the handset in the base to try again.
Press [end] and continue with the next handset.
Note:
Once both handsets are registered, it doesn’t matter which
handset is placed in the base or the charger.
When you charge the handsets, Caller
ID summary screen and the name of
the handset appears.

This can be find from uniden website.

Uniden TRU8885 New Message Light

Does the light work at all? So the device is working just fine but the light is not working.

So its either a broken lamp / led. Or then a setting is wrong somewhere.

Background static

1. How old are you phone lines in the house?  Check the "main" terminal connections.  Clean and reconnect.  (Make note how the wires are connected).

2. The power transformers for the phones maybe you trouble also. Unplug all except the main unit.   Check each transfer one at a time. Do you have static?  One or more may be your problem.  Replace the bad ones if needed.

Can this phone be saved?

Battery maybe defective. Buy a replacement battery.  Give it a full charge before using.

Also the power transformer may be bad. Very common problem.  You can usually find a replacement at Radio Shack or on line through Uniden.  They  are very good at shipping stuff normally.  At the electronics place have them check the voltage output for you too.

If this doesn't solve the problem it sounds like you have a defective phone.
