I can't find a replacement fan 3 speed switch for

Hi azwaverid!

I just had a similar problem with my ceiling fan, not sure if I have the same model as you (the fan was in the house when I bought it). I do have the exact same pull chain switch (K.T.E 2035080).

I went to a big home improvement store and the salesman gave me some 3-way switch and guaranteed it would work. The switch had only 3 wires, not 4 like the original. Can you guess what happened next? That's right, their part didn't work.

Being an engineer, I could not admit defeat. I consulted with other engineers I work with, and they pointed me to a "mom & pop" electronics store close to my house. I went to Centennial Electronics in Colorado Springs, CO. The sales staff didn't have experience with this problem, but at least helped me and offered suggestions.

I ended up buying a Philmore Pull Chain Switch for $2.51 after tax. This worked perfect! Just be sure to place the wires in the right slots. On my fan, the following positions and wire colors were: L - Orange, 1 - Yellow, 2 - Purple, and 3 - Blue (I just matched them up the same as the K.T.E. switch colors & positions).

Hope this helps!
Bob

P.s. The exact part I used was:
Philmore No. 30-9152 (UPC code: 0 38975 39152 6). The box says (everywhere you see a semi-colon is a line break): Philmore PULL CHAIN SWITCH; L-1-2-3, L-2-3, L-1-3, L-1-2, PUSH-IN TERMINAL; 6A-125V AC, 3A-250V AC; Made in Taiwan No. 30-9152; LKG Industries - Rockford, IL

Hunter Ceiling Fans

Unfortunatly that is a common thing with most manufactorers now a days! they are not in the service industry. make it, sell it, dump it, make a new one. and the cycle goes on and on. You may be able to find a repair person who can fix the fans for you at a reasonable cost.

When using the fan, we

My concern hear is for your safety. Repairing something like this is not worth the risk of a fire breaking out or the cost of a repairing the unit. Because the problem is now in the medium setting it could go to the others as well.

Keep the light kit, but replace the fan.

I have a hampton bay

One Grey is for Speed 1 and the other Grey is for Reverse.

I don't think it matters which way they're connected but if it does, all it means it when you start the Fan it will run in reverse instead of forwards at Speed 1 so you'll just have to swap them over.

Generally as Diagram Below (Not mine but gives you the idea).

I'm looking to replace the fan switch for a

This is fairly simple.

Assuming you have a black brick capacitor, and assuming you have the correct switch, for capacitor speed control.... (if you don't you will not blow anything up)

On your capacitor, there should be a set of two wires which are the same color. Black goes to L The two wires which are the same color, one will go to position 1. The other two wires, will go to 2 and 3. On the capacitor it should have some numbers and crude diagram with the color of wire on it. The wire with the highest value (say it's 6) will go to position 2 and the lower value will go to position three.

If you only have one small capacitor in the switch housing, (usually a red and white wire one) then you have a winding taps speed control. If you have a capacitor type switch, you can burn out your motor, as on the second position of that switch it activates both 2 and 3 (or medium and low) Be sure you have a switch which operates as such L+1 L+2 L+3. If you have the proper switch, then all you need to do is connect the black wire to L and then randomly place the other three wires into the switch and test it. Most likely the speeds won't be right (it might go medium, low, high) if it does, then just move the wires around until it goes high medium low.

Remote lightswitch won't work.

This may be obvious but you may need to turn the light on with the string and leave it on. Then the remote should work. Sorry if this doens't work or is too simple.
