Blank screen "BOOTMGR is missing" for toshiba satellite A215-S5837

I would assume this may have Windows XP or 7, see if you can find the recovery disk for your machine. One of the things you can try is use the CD as your boot disk (you may need to enter the BIOS or SETUP to change the boot order...there will be a key to hit when you see the Toshiba splash screen when you first boot the machine...it will say press "<some key here>" to enter setup.) Once you boot from the disk I would try getting to a command prompt and running the following command: chkdsk c: /f /r This will scan and repair any bad sectors on your hard drive and if they can be repaired it may make your machine bootable again. If they cannot be repaired, it may be that your hard drive is dying. Either way...if you get into the machine (even from the boot disk) if you can see the drive, I'd recommend backing up whatever files you can, because if the drive dies, you will lose your data

DVD drive does not play

Try cleaning the eye gently with a cotton swab and a little alcohol. If that doesn't work after a few cleanings then the drive itself may need to be replaced.

My burner don't recognize the blank disc

Good day,

One of the reasons why a CD drive won't recognise a disc is if d disc is corrupt or not good again. I'll suggest that you buy another one and see if the cd drive will see it. If not, try putting a non-empty disc (either a movie disc) and see if it works. If it doesn't, then d burner might have a little problem.
But if it does work, please feel free to reply.

Thank you for using Fixya!

this sounds like a damaged keyboard, or you spilled something on it. I am afraid you have to buy a new keyboard, because laptop keyboards are very tricky and hardly can be fixed.

NO WIRELESS DRIVERS FOUND

Sounds like you need to install drivers.

Always get your drivers and specific software from the manufacturer of your Laptop, Notebook or Desktop. They are usually free of charge.

If you were to log on to the www.toshiba.com web site, usually one is able to download if available, by model number, All available Driver downloads as required.

If the driver is not available, perhaps your manufacturer does not support the OS you are installing.

This is the best way of ensuring up to date drivers for your system and they are free of charge!

I hope this helps.

Some of my keyboad keys do not work.Letter

1. Turn OFF the laptop, unplug the ac adapter and the battery (located on the bottom)

Note: You won't need any screw driver to remove the battery. There are two latches. Left and Right. Move the left latch to the left and hold it, Right latch to the right and hold it, then pull the battery out.

Without the battery and ac adapter, hold down the power button for 10 secs.(you do this to drain complete the power).

Try to turn ON the laptop, once it goes back to desktop, open a notepad to test if the keys are already working. If not go to step 2.

2.Go to device manager. (Go to Start search and type device manager). In device manager, click keyboard and expand it. Right click on the keyboard driver (usual name is PS2 standards) and select uninstall (do not delete) and click ok, then restart the NB. The driver will be automatically installed once restarted. You will see the message that the device driver is successfully installed. Then try to test again the keyboard. Open a notepad and type. If this won't work. Go to step 3.

3. Go to the nearest service center.

Sometimes the Laptop works pretty

Hi

If the LCD screen is blinking most of the tiem its an LCD problem and LCD needs to be replaced but ther are cases that it only needs a driver update from your video card. I recommend you do that first. Try to call Toshiba to check and give you the updated driver for your video card. If problem persists after updating the driver sadly you need to change your LCD as they suggested. Thanks

When turning on the computer

Why do you press these buttons in the first place? Did you have problems with the stability of your system so you want a different boot option?
If your laptop was experienicing random freezeups and you couldnt get it to boot at all, and nothing you do can get you past the Toshiba startup screen then your laptop may have a bad motherboard. Actually, it's more of a loose contact between the FSB controller chip and the motherboard. Take a look at this laptop motherboard repair tutorial for bad FSB chip contact, see if that may be of any help.

once you get a bad sector it usually spreads like a virus through your hard drive. the best thing to do is to buy a new hard drive, install it and do a clean install of windows. you can buy or borrow a hard drive enclosure and rescue your documents from your old drive but isolating the bad sector doesn't work, especially if your drive is making a noise

It won't complete the defrag. Does that mean the

You definitely should back up your files before trying to solve the issue. To defrag first check if you have enough free space and if some programs are running that are interrupting the task. Run a diskcleanup and chkdsk. The Windows defrag program will not defrag under less than 15% free space and also sometimes if other programs write to the disk while its running. So download the trial version of a reliable commercial defragger and try. (They will defrag in less than 5% free space and run in the background).
