Rheem Paloma PTG-74PVN / RTG-74PVN Natural Gas Indoor - Page 9 Questions & Answers
Error code LO 76
A couple of things, the error is a communication issue with the remote. Check the connections to the remote if fine bypass the remote to see if its working if still faulting when bypassed try a new remote and if still faulting worse case you will have to replace the PCB (printed circuit board) see if it is still under warranty if you have to replace any parts. I have a link with lists of faults for easier access in the future.

I suggest you call tech support. I had a similar problem, and after walking me through a few tests, they determined it was likely a motherboard problem and are sending a new one. At 2 1/2 years, your unit should still be under warranty...
Me too
1.Not an expert with natural gas furnaces.
2.Statements below are from my own personal experience, and knowledge from.
The red blinking light you see is on a computer control board. The flashes of the red light represent a type of code. Think of it as a Morse Code, if you will.
For example: Red light blinks three times rapidly, pause, then blinks one more time. This code represents a particular fault. (Fault = Problem)
There is a sticker, with a chart of codes listed for this red light. It is usually placed very near the red light.
A gas furnace should be repaired by a competent HVAC technician. This is not a device that should be attended to, by those who are not trained.
An HVAC technician will know where to look, what parts are needed, and if the gas furnace is safe enough to put back on line. (Safe enough to use)

I had the same problem...according to Rheem, the error code is showing that there is a communication problem between the PCB and remote. Since I'm still under parts warranty they are sending me a new PCB and CHIP to program it the fix.
PTG-74PVN Error Code -0 14
code 14 is a big deal shut that thing down! you will burn it up if you keep running it, your over heat wrap on the heat exchanger is too hot. call rheem they can walk you through it
Do you need a dedcated 3\4inch line for water heater to work
A typical residence is usually plumbed with a 3/4 inch line feeding the hot water tank. That line need not be a dedicated line however. As long as you have the 3/4 line going in and a 3/4 line going out you can then branch off with 1/2 inch to go to each faucet. Be very sure to run water out of each tap before you activate the hot water tank so that you remove all air gaps and insure that the tank is totallyfull of water. If you don't do that, you risk burning out the top element which will fry in a few seconds if it is not surrounded with water. get back if i can assist you further.

bad circuit board. Call 1 800 432 8373 and tell them you're having this code, they'll overnight you a new board. Once installed, call them again for the final set up (because they don't include the last programming in their instructions!)
76 C8 error display on control board
Call Paloma and they will send you a new circuit board. We had the same problem. Our heater is a little over 2 years old. They said the error "76" is a circuit board issue where the tank is not communicating properly with the remote. The other solution they told us was to disconnect the remote and just let the heater run on the default.
I have the same issue - random hot water
You have a bad igniter, and the sensing switch is shutting the fan off because the igniter is not functioning properly.
The average cost is about $150 for the part.

it might be over heating, have you flushed the heat exchanger out with anything to clean out the hard water from it? if the unit gets too hot it will shut it down. let me know if you need specs on how to flush it out if you haven't already
Keep shutting off little to no hot water 11/2 yrs of the 2yrs
The Rheem Paloma is a very good system. I live in North Carolina so I cannot come and work on it however if you contact Rheem they should have a list a qualified service personnel in your area. Another suggestion is to find the local Rheem distributer ie: Ferguson Enterprises....Longley Supply.... any plumbing distributer and see who they can recommend thay are usually very good about referrals
