My 1997 Suzuki 600 Katana came with a maintenance battery and i had it replaced with a maintenance free battery. The battery came fully charged and was ready to be installed. When I got home and installed, I could not get the bike to start. I checked the charge on it with my portal and it was full. Any ideas on what I should check?

Hi and welcome to fixya,

Jump start the bike on 3rd gear to pre-charge the battery. its better to assume it was discharged and let the bike do the charging. Make sure all connections are in place and jumps start the bike, run a few kilometers. This should charge the battery pretty good for an electric start.

Hope this helps

1989 Suzuki Katana. What are the different key positions settings? How do I get to the battery please?

Question edited for clarity.
Question moved to one of the Katana Categories.

The Katana comes in 3 flavours - 600 F and 750 F and GSX1100.

I was hoping to find an owners manual. Switch normally has 3 positions, Off, Parking Lights (remove key) and Power On (key locked in place). The battery on a larger bike is normally accessed from under the seat, smaller bikes from behind a side panel (left side).

Katana 600 manual

Did you charge it before you fitted it? It should be put on charge for 24 hours after the electrolyte has been added(acid). Then it should work. They don't come from the shop fully charged.
