Low on the right side crankcase cover there is a sight glass. Have someone hold the bike level (not on the side stand) and check the oil level through the sight glass. If you can see oil while the bike is level, you are ok.
On newer model bikes there is no dipstick, just a cap.
so to check the oil level, you need to look on the engine cover itself.
there will be a sight glass, with 2 hash marks on the case .
lower line is minimum, top line is maximun
If the sight glass is too dirty, warm up the bike and then change the oil and filter.
Then watch the sight glass as you fill the oil.
if bike is equipped with a center stand, always check oil on center stand.
if no center stand then check oil with bike on kickstand.
The sight glass will be either on the right side lower engine cover
or left side lower engine cover.
it it round and about the size of a quater.
Just put the bike up on it's stand or use the kick stand with a shim under to get the bike near level. Then use a flash light and look low on the left side of the engine and you'll see a small round flush mounted glass the size of a nickle. The oil should appear dark on the bottom half of that sight glass and if properly filled said level will cut right through the middle of the glass...if the dark line is below half then add oil!
The bike must be level and not on the side stand. If you look closely, you should see the oil level index marks to the side of the sight glass. Just like the marks on an oil dipstick, as long as the oil level is between the marks, you're OK.
Your title description says 2003. Is your bike a 2003 or a 1996? If your bike does not have a dipstick on the filler, there may be a sight glass on the crankcase. If this is the case, the sight glass will be low on the right side of the crankcase. In order to ge an accurate estimate of your oil level, the bike must be level, not on the side stand.
holds 3 us quarts of oil with a oil filter change or if the egine was complety drained after overhaul it takes 3 1/2 us quarts of oil.
To check oil look for a small quarter size window on the clutch case, oil level should fill half the window to be full.Bike must be held level while viewing window, not on kick stand.
10-40 probably, check level when the bike is sitting level (the true use of the center stands) you should see oil line across the sight glass but dont fill it more than 1/2 way in the sight glass, it can cause problems.
There is no dipstick on suzuki . Stand beside your bike and look on the bottom right side of your crankcase . look for a little site glass window . That is how you check . if the oil is half way up the glass when you stand bike straight up . . change every 3000, plus filter
the oil level is max upper line on the sight glass on engine/ coolant level is max at upper level of expansion bottle as to the gears from neutral first is up and the rest are down
Hi! I presume you are in a fairly warm climate? if so 10W40 synthetic should do the trick as for quantity? Not seeing many of these in my area I can only presume Suzuki still have a SIGHT/LEVEL glass usually just below or aroung the base of oil filler. Wth the bike upright on centre stand the oil should be visible through of the Round sight glass (1/2 way up). So dump your old oil, replace oil filter and remember to put sump plug back? fill with required oil to half way up the sight glass and Bingo!
Hope this helped,
Good luck!
