My 2006 DRZ400E is very hard to start when cold. Have replaced spark plug with no change. Air filter is also not an issue Once the bike gets running then starting is not a problem. Anyone got any suggestions?

The carburetor choke valve might be stuck open or not closing when the engine is cold. The engine needs a richer mixture to start. Too rich a mixture (flooding) can also cause trouble. Turn the fuel valve off to be sure the carb isn't leaking when not in use. If it smokes black on startup, it's flooding. Also check the condition of the spark plugs.
Interesting. I have identical problem on mine. I have about 6500Miles on it and all of a sudden showed identical symptoms. I changed air filter and spark plugs to get it started. It starts now but after couple of attempts and needs to warm up until becomes operable. please let me know if you solved yours ! cheers
Spark Plugs ---change at 70,000 miles
O2 Sensors--change at 100,000 miles (front 2 only)
Gas Filter--every 3 years/30,000 miles
Air Filter ---every 3 years/blow off once every year
MAF Sensor---Clean once a year or more often
Ignition Coils--- most definitely will go bad,at
least 1 a year. (Any Check Lights or Codes ? )
When cold, it isn't in closed-loop, and runs on
Long Term Fuel Trim--not on O2 Sensors ,until
warm
Let it warm up at least 4 minutes in cold weather,
go light on the gas for first 2 miles
first thing to do is to drain oil from your motorcycle use wrench 17(size may vary) to open the bolt under your bike and place a drain bucket under it, then remove spark plug using spark plug remover, as for the filter you can use a cross screw driver to remove the air filter, once you replace the spark plug and the air filter let the oil subside for about 3hrs, then return the bolt and place new oil, i dont know if this help but i hope it will
This problem is because of the fuel what you use. you better clean the carburetor, air filter and the spark plug, if possible replace the spark plug and the air filters. Then fine tune the carburetor and bring the engine RPM to 750-900 to sort out this issue.
hellow that is a R1 Not a honda civic it takestime for fuel pump to get going also ecu to work fuel injection to kick in
I Have A R1 2000 carb and i ride with a lot of guys these bikes just take 2-20 secs to start after that they run great your bike is fine leave it alone
u must check the valves,very important. clean your carb, change your oil, clean your air filter, change your spark plug one number lower than u are using now because the lower the number on the plug the its stays hotter longer, people make the mistake of thinking the lower the number the hotter the plug burns, wrong your a rookie if u think like this. i no for a fact u didnt do all of these yet, so do these exact things i told u and you'll be fine trust me.
