LorraineA25,
PLEASE contact me. I have a '06 Stratoliner S here in Woodbridge, VA. Yamaha is currently taking my engine APART to figure this out. They are MUM on this issue but there are dozens of complaints about this according to a few online bike forums. Call Yamaha Motor USA and tell them you have this problem and want it fixed!
I'm tired of bike manufacturers not acknowledging their fudge ups! Many others are having the same issue:

Wont turn over
The most likely cause is a blown main fuse, which can be found in the positive battery cable. Another possibility is defective wiring, such as a loss of ground. Check to make sure the wiring has not been damaged by rodents. Also be sure that the negative battery cable is properly grounded to the frame or engine.
Wont start
The solenoid has two main heavier wires one from the battery the other to the starter. There are usually two smaller wires that come from the start switch that activates the solenoid. If you are having problems with the starter switch not activating the solenoid you can (but with caution) use a screwdriver to go between the battery and starter wire on the solenoid this will engage the starter and will help you see if your starter is working. The solenoid could be defective.
Engine noise
IF ENGINE HAS ONE REPLACE KNOCK SENSOR IF NOT REPLACE SHAFT PISTON ETC.
I have a 2006 roadliner and the speedometer quit
First check to make sure your needle sweeps when you turn the Key on. If it does not then make sure everything else works Fuel gauge, indicator lights odometer. If no then check for power to the unit the factory wiring diagram shows what wire this is. If everything else works and you have power. Is your odometer clicking off the miles you ride? If NO! check your speed sensor. If YES! It sounds like your speedo motor is dead. Hope this helps
