Not so, you'd better check the coolant level, thermostat, thermoswitch or the water pump.

On a 2008 Ford focus why does the temp Guage read hot when the car is not hot

There could be a few different issues that could cause the temperature gauge on your 2008 Ford Focus to read hot when the engine is not actually overheating. Here are a few things to consider:

Failed thermostat: The thermostat is responsible for regulating the flow of coolant through the engine. If the thermostat is stuck in the closed position, it could cause the temperature gauge to read hot even though the engine is not overheating.

Failed temperature sensor: The temperature sensor sends a signal to the temperature gauge to indicate the engine's temperature. If the temperature sensor is faulty, it could cause the temperature gauge to read hot even though the engine is not overheating.

Wiring issue: If there is a problem with the wiring that connects the temperature sensor to the temperature gauge, it could cause the gauge to read hot even though the engine is not overheating.

To determine the cause of the issue, it may be necessary to perform some diagnostic tests and possibly replace some components. A mechanic or a professional auto repair shop will be able to diagnose the problem and recommend the appropriate repairs. It's also a good idea to keep an eye on the engine temperature and take note of any other symptoms or issues you may be experiencing. This information can help the mechanic diagnose the problem more accurately

1010 John Deere tractor shuts down after temp gauge goes half way to hot

Sounds like the temperature gauge or temperature sensor is faulty and giving a wrong reading. Too high of an engine temperature will shut that engine down. Check the temperature with a temp gun if you can get one to see how hot it is before it shuts down. Aim it at the coolant line or the engine block. Or take the temperature sensor out and check it by putting it in a pot full of hot water with a temperature gauge and boil the water to see how high the temperature gets before the sensor closes or opens. Use an ohm meter across the sensor terminals to know when it's either opened or closed. Some of these are set up to operate in either open or close mode.

if engine over heating coolant over flow jug will boil over you will see steam.sound like you have either faulty engine coolant temperature sensor or could have faulty fans relay or fuse or pcm problem if coolant fans dont turn on.have garage with code scanner that can do a snap shot on coolant temperature sensor check see how hot coolant temperature is see if coolant temperature over 220 degrees engine getting too hot.could have faulty water or blowed head gasket check engine oil on oil dip stick look milkly you have blowed head gasket. i use infra red laser thermometor check see how hot engine is over 107 celsius engine is overheating.

Engine fan won't come on

IF COOLANT FAN FUSE AND RELAY OKAY.HOT WIRE COOLANT FAN TO SEE IF FAN MOTOR OKAY.IF FAN MOTOR OKAY.THE ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR MORE LIKELY BAD.THE ENGINE COOLANT SENSOR WHEN ENGINE COOLANT GETS HOT IT CAUSES ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE RESISTANCE TO DECREASE CAUSE COMPLETE CIRCUIT IN WHICH POWER FROM PCM TO ECT SENSOR WILL SENT POWER TO COOLANT FAN RELAY THEN CAUSE COOLANT FAN TO TURN ON. HAVE ECT SENSOR OR ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR CHECK USING CODE SCANNER TO MAKE SURE ITS WORKING BEFORE SPENDING EXCESS MONEY.

Where is the temperature sensor for the temperature gage

Engine Temperature Sensor Operation:00116_engine_temp_sensor.jpgThis sensor monitors the temperature of the engine and sends that information to the engine control computer to regulate the amount of fuel needed - more if engine is cold and less if it's hot. The signal generated can also be sent to the temperature gauge as a visual indicator of overheating and imminent danger

I checked with autozone.com and their site says that the engine temperature sensor is not used on both engine sizes available for this vehicle.

The Coolant Temperature Sensor is used though. So maybe it has a dual purpose on your vehicle.

Coolant Temperature Sensor Operation:00113_coolant_temp_sensor.jpgThis sensor monitors the temperature of the engine and sends that information to the engine control computer to regulate the amount of fuel needed. More fuel is needed if the engine is cold; less if it's hot. If the temperature is extreme, the signal will be sent to the temperature gauge as a visual indicator of overheating and imminent danger.

Because ECT (engine coolant temperature) sensor procedures vary depending upon their location, first locate the part. You may need to partially drain the engine coolant to prevent coolant spillage.
  • Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  • Unplug the ECT.
  • Then, unscrew it.
  • Reverse the removal procedures to install the new part.
  • Connect the negative battery cable to the battery.

1996 sunfire overheating replaced thermostat, waterpump and heater core. Fan is working after cleaning relay. Still overheating ?

Does the top rubber engine to radiator hoes get hot? If yes then the new thermostat is working. Does the bottom return hose from the radiator back to the engine also get hot? If yes then the pump is OK. If not then there is a blockage in the system and this will need to be flushed out from both the radiator and the engine block using a high pressure hose. Does the radiator fan come on promptly. It should start before the bottom return hose becomes hot. If not then the temperature sensor (different from the temperature sender to the dash display) maybe at fault. Your relay maybe fine but it is the sensor that actually triggers the fan to come on. It may be just bad connection so try wiggling the wires to it when the engine has got warm. The temperature sensor is also important to let the engine computer management system (ECU)know that the engine has reached operating temperature. A failed sensor not only allows overheating but means that the ECU thinks the engine is still cold and runs the engine on a rich mix. Have you noticed lumpy idling when hot and excessive fuel consumption recently? these are symptomatic of a failing sensor.

Radiator fan not working

CHECK FUSE AND RELAY.IF ALL IS GOOD.HOT WIRE COOLING FAN USING JUMPER WIRES.USING CAR BATTERY.IF FAN RUNS.ITS GOOD.IF FAN DONT RUN.REPLACE FAN ELECTRIC MOTOR.ALSO SCAN IT. TO MAKE SURE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR IS NOT OPEN.MAKE SURE ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR AND COOLANT TEMPERATURE READS SAME ON SCANNER IF NOT REPLACE THE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR. SEE IF COOLANT TEMPERATURE IS BAD THE COOLING FAN OR FANS WONT RUN.

Engine coolant indicator

make sure that your fans are working first. to do this. start veh and let idle until it warms up. but if it starts to get hot and fans do not turn on, check fuses. if they work then look for leaks.
