A warped head will cause a gasket to fail, the process of replacing the gasket includes checking the head for warped surfaces. At this point it is hard to say what caused the gasket to fail.
Well it would really depend on the condition of your engine. It would take more labor to repair your engine than it would to just replace it. But unless the engine is very damaged it should be cheaper to have your engine fixed. And replacing the head gasket and having the head repaired should be under the price you were given. A head gasket set for a 4 cyl engine is around $100 wholesale. I would call around and check with other shops next.
YOU NEED TOOLS AND A HAYNES REPAIR MANAUL TO SHOW AND TELL YOU HOW HEADS ARE REMOVE.YOU NEED A STRAIGHT EDGE LIKE FRAMING SQUARE AND FEELER GAUGE TO DECK THE THE HEAD TO CHECK FOR WARPAGE.OR THE MACHINE SHOP CAN CHECK WARPAGE ON HEAD.SEE IF REPLACED HEAD GASKET AND DONT CHECK WARPAGE WHICH SHOULD NOT EXCEED 0.004 INCH.IF SO YOUR NEW HEAD GASKET WILL LEAK ALSO.
dear friend-i do not think the oil comes from the hear gasket but rather from the distributor,make sure that the oil is not running down onto the head gasket and the shows as a oil leak from the gasket.
its not hard if you get either a haynes, or a chilton repair manual, chiltons are more indepth, and have photos, both are available at most part stores, the part store can also give you a quote on the parts, make sure you ask for an upper enine kit, not just a head gasket. this way youll get gaskets for intake, exhaust manifolds, plenum, and intake gaskets, as well as the head gaskets.
no it will just get wore, however I find it hard to believe the gasket is leaking, are you sure it's the gasket and not the water hoses? normally the pressure is so great it would not be a leak it would be the foutain of youth!
