You will find the thermostat located under the tank, be carful of a sending unit wire attached.

Freezer stopped working for a period of time while we were gone for 4 days...set house thermostat to 86 degrees

Is this a commercial freezer? If so, it might be because you don't have proper ventilation for it. Commercial units put off a lot more heat than residential units. Turning the thermostat up to 86 degrees will make it even more difficult for this unit to not overheat.
