1994 cavalier 2.2 oil light on-car shuts off when gets warm

Replaced starter - when cranked oil light comes on now and then once car idles for a couple of minutes and gets warm shuts off and struggles to start back. When it starts back, same process begins then when you rev it up light goes out and a knocking sound comes from the bottom of the engine. What are some ideas on where to start looking. This is on a car turned race car.

Blew something in lower end --oil pump damaged --no oil or low level --check oil pressure then do compression test as well --since knocking noise is usually called rod knock

SOURCE: my engine ie knocking

With your enione knocking and the iol having been changed, This is a sign that you have a hidrolic lifter going bad. If you have any mechanical knowledge and the tools and the time you can fixs this yor self. But in most cases it is best to take your car to a trust worthy garage to fix this. I would do this soon and not drive the car to hard or far. If I am right and you are losing a lifter and you don't take care of it soon you will have a bigger more expencive problem as the lifter could go all together and the push rod that it moves could bend and slip out of possition anf cause something else to break.

SOURCE: Burning smell, check engine light-misfire, rough idle 96 cavalier

Sounds like there is a blown piston, to be sure have a compression test done on that #2 cylinder, if the reading is low, then you'll know.
A friend of mine had a 95 that did simular things only a little more,
it started smoking, dash lights flickered, etc. Finally, he had to get rid of it, the piston rod went through the engine block.

hi, i would like to advice you check the electronic idle speed control valve and also check engine coolant temp sensor. The ISC (idle speed control valve) is located somewhere below the throttle valve. the engine coolant temp sensor is located near distributor. it has a two wire connection. the sensor connector is usually green

From your description of the knocking, mileage, and oil crusted on the intake valves you need an engine or a complete rebuild of the original.

Well yes a match is one option.
When you were replacing the rod bearings did you check the main bearings too ? My guess is a worn out main bearing.
Once you get up to speed the crank is not in such a strain as when you are accelerating. And the worn main bearings can cause the oil pressure to drop when the oil thins out at operating temp.

1994 dodge shadow es 3.0 v6 will not start. when I turn the key I can hear one single click then nothing. All lights work, replaced starter, checked battery terminals and wires for corrosion, fly whee

Replace the starter solenoid. Make sure you hook the wires back properly. Try jumping across the solenoid with cables to see the starter crank. That makes a direction to the starter. That's what the solenoid does. It connects those 2 cable ends together to make the starter crank over.

If your oil pressure gets to low it can turn off the fuel pump. This may also have saved your engine. The ECM turns on the fuel thru the fuel pump relay for about 5 seconds. When engine is running oil pressure sender supplies the voltage to the pump. When engine shuts off check oil pressure and voltage to fuel pump.

The grinding below your feet is the starter, the oil light will allways come on when the rpm's drop to low.
This sounds like a vacuum leak, clogge EGR, throttle position sensor,or incorrect timing.

what is the temp when you say it is overheating?

Oil light.

cheapest thing to do is replace oil pressure sender ,unless you have an oil pressure gauge to test actual pressure, sender should be near oil filter housing could be 1 to 3 wire connector, you'll need special socket to r&r part, also make sure car idles normal when hot, if surging or low you may get light flicker in drive.

01 chevy cavalier: oil light coming on when car is stopping

Could be that your Oil pump is getting clogged or may not be fuctioning properly. Isnt getting enough power while at a low idle because its clogged.... When your stopped or in your driveway with the light on put your car in neutral and set the parking break and rev the motor up to 2200 RPM's and see if the light turns off.. If i does then that is most likely your problem.
