If water is in your transmission, The transmission fluid will have to be changed. If you change the fluid, it should start working a lot better. If that does not work, your vehical needs transmission work by a professional mechanic. Hope this helps!

  • check shift linkage if tranny dead, the service manual even shows proving, each selection PRNDL works, even to the point of cant push car in park test. and can push in N. and more, in the book just this 1 test.
  • dip stick end looks like tar, or metal dust or smells burnt. (doomed)

Shifter is seized ,,,linkage is working free . problem seems to be in transmission??

With the shift linkage disconnected from tranny, can you shift tranny by hand? If not, sounds like a tranny issue. There are safety issues with taking shift linkages loose from tranny, You have to sure vehicle can't roll, incase you do shift it. Safety is your responsibility.
Is this automatic or manual tranny?
Is the vehicle on level ground? Usually, you set the parking brake before you kill it, so the tranny isn't holding the vehicle. If the vehicle has a bind on the tranny, it may not want to shift?
I don't know year--make--model? I'm not a tranny person.

My 1991 Ford e350 automatic transmission won't shift into gear

Check the emc on the tranny. Ford and chevy have a problem with the location of where the tranny ecm is located. It it located where water soaks it. Also, check the tranny fluid, if it out it won't shift into gear.

Transmission shifts extremely hard.I had trans rebuilt, still

The Buick (GM) Corp, has offically released this as an on-going problem with this style of tranny, but will not issue a recall. Basically, it can only be fixed by replacing the pressure valve within the tranny. This is a costly fix (400 to 650, depending on the shop). The pressure valve (over time) wears a groove between the valve cylinder wall and piston (of valve) which allows tranny fluid to bypass thru the line, thus causing the hard shifting, mostly when the tranny is hot and the fluid is thin. Trust me when I say, no other fix will work, such as changing tranny fluid, flush and fill, or any additives such as Seafoam or other tranny slip or fix additives. Bite the bullet and find a tranny shop which will give you a LIFE TIME warranty, mostly, in case they install yet another defective valve.
