The only way you can tell you blew a head gasket is if there is white smoke coming out of tail pipe or if there is anti freeze mixed with your motor oil ,check the dip stick if oil is creamy then you have a blown head gasket ,check your valve covers and hoses for leaks

'94 Gmc Sonoma 4.3L Starts loosing Power and making weird Rattle Noise when reaching operating temperature. Also water tank looks like there is a bit oil in it. Could it be the cylinder head gasket?

Oil in the coolant is usually an intake manifold gasket problem on these engines. If a head gasket failure the engine will normally overheat and give erratic temp guage readings. Make sure the oil level is full. Is the rattle noise coming from the engine? Some times the exhaust (converter) will fail and the catylist will seperate causing a rattle noise from the exhaust and plug it up giving a no power situation

BLOWN HEAD GASKET

You can do a compression test on each cylinder, if one or two cylinders are lower than the others, that could be a sign of a blown head gasket. Also, do a pressure test on the cooling system to see if the cooling system holds pressure. Check your oil for anti-freeze, and vise-versa. Any white foam around the oil cap? Or oil around the radiator cap?

Ok me again 1994 eclipse just informed that what I thought was a blown head gasket could maybe be a faulty heater core. losing water somewhere doesnt appear to be in oil well..... help single female tryin...

a blown head gasket doesn't always leak into the oil, it could be going out the exhaust. Do you get white smoke out the tailpipe? Also check passenger side floorboard and see if it is wet, if it is it could be the heater core. I have to assume you don't notice water under the vehicle when you park it?

1994 Audi A80 2.6E has got water getting mixed in with the oil some how, can anyone help me?

Coolant from the car's cooling system will generally escape into the oil passages (and into the cylinders) under pressure when you have a blown head gasket on your engine. You will also notice that you will need to be topping up the coolant level.

This is not a reliable model and the head gaskets on these engines are prone to failure if the cooling system is not completely flushed out and new coolant added at least every 2 years. The head gaskets will also blow if the car has been operated when the engine is overheated - such as when overheating is caused by allowing the coolant level to drop too low.

In your case the symptoms you have described do point to a blown head gasket. If you inspect the coolant in your cooling system when it is cold you will probably also see evidence of oil in the coolant fluid.

You need to get the car to a reputable audi specialist, who is familiar with the problems with these engines, to check it out for you.
If you have a blown head gasket, as it appears, the repair costs will be quite expensive as are most mechanical repairs on German cars.

Determining if head gasket is blown on a 1994 honda accord Ex w VTec

White smoke out of the exhaust is one indication that the head gasket is blown. Another is to start the car and check the oil on the dipstick. If it's frothy or looks like a milkshake, this is another indication of a blown head gasket. The milky appearance indicates that coolant is in your engine, caused by a bad head gasket. If none of these symptoms occur, then the problem lies elsewhere. Hope this answers your question and feel free to post back with any other concerns or questions. Thank you.
