Most vehicles are equipped with what is called a fuel power inertia switch. It is a basic component that shuts down the fuel system during an accident to prevent fuel from being an factor during sensitive times. You may have to find and flip or replace this switch. I do not know the location of it on this particular model off hand, but if you consult your service manual you should be able to locate it quickly.

NOTE: on most vehicle it is located under the dash near the glove box. On some near the fuse box. On cars it is commonly in the trunk.

Truck wont start

If you have no fuel pressure at the engine when key is on, the pump is not coming on. Check fuel pump fuse, check fuel pump relay (relay should click when key turned to on-put finger lightly on it and feel for click when someone turns key to on). If no click, signal from computer may be lost, ground for relay may be lost, or relay may be bad. If it clicks, wiring from relay to pump may have failed, or the relay's main power source may not be there at relay-find the fuse link or maxi-fuse that powers that relay. One terminal at relay should be hot at all times-can check for that with a test light.
If pump is working and you do have fuel pressure, you will need to check injector circuit. Post back if questions, or need further help.

1993 Dodge Dakota 5.2 318 4x4, turns over, but no spark. Cat converter shot, removed. Plugs, cap, rotor replaced. MAP sensor recently replaced...will start and run once in a great while.

Try switching the ASD Relay for another relay in the Fuse Box in the Engine Compartment. If the ASD Relay fails it cancels the power to the Hall Effect & Fuel Pump.
If that doesn't change anything, check the wiring harness that travels down the left wheelwell for damage, It actually goes outside of the engine compartment, into the wheelwell where it can be damaged by rocks, road debris or a tire (if you've flexed the suspension, or had the truck off road). If the wiring there checks out, it leaves one other thing.
The Hall Effect Sensor inside the Distributor.

My 98 Dakota has an intermittentr starting problem. I recently replaced the starter, battery, plugs and wires, cap and rotor as well as the coil. The problem still exists. Lately it has been starting if I...

My guess is all the parts you replaced, had nothing to do with the starting problem. Certainly not the plugs, wires, cap and rotor. If you had spark, even while cranking, you would move on to something else. Check out the fuse box, especially any relays related to the starter or retained power distribution. What ever it's called on yours. You could use a wiring diagram,to speed things along.

I have a 1998 Dodge Dakota w/ 3.9 5 speed 4X4 When I try to start it the starter engages for an instant then goes dead, if i hold the key to start it just keeps doing this, turns for an instant then...

You may want to check the wiring that is in you car between the starter and the key since you said you tried directly connecting the starter to the battery. Check for loose connections. Also most ignition systems have a capacitor in them, check it out if needs replacing
