Please note........
Coolant tabs in the Northstar engine will not prevent overheating.
The coolant supplement tablets were put in at the factory in order to stop nuisance leaks due to the porosity of the aluminium alloy.
They have nothing to do with head gasket failure.
The most common overheating problem with the Northstar engine is a blocked purge line(small hose). The purge line is designed to purge air out of the cooling system.
There is a small diameter hose coming from near the top of the coolant tank (not the cap) ,this is the purge line.
With the engine idling, pull the purge line from the tank,if there is no coolant flow from this small hose,it is blocked and this will cause overheating.
If the hose is clear, check for blockage at the nipple on the tank.Or trace the hose back until you find the blockage.
The hose goes in to the engine to a crossover and comes out the other side close to the thermostat housing, the blockage may be there.
The AC condensation drain tube is also located on the passenger side fire-wall towards the bottom of the fire-wall, it is there to drain the condensation from the evaporator/core plenum so that it does not flood the passenger compartment floorboard with water and it can easily be viewed from under the vehicle, and if it is cool clear water that is leaking and not hot coolant then you have no problem and that is a normal condition when the AC is operating.
If it was a coolant leak the cooling system would be low on coolant, and the engine would run hot when the coolant gets low.
Yes, there is supposed to be special sealing tablets used in sealing that vehicles cooling system, but they are supposed to be put in before the engine is ran and over-heated, and the dealer damn well knows that those tablets have to be used in the cooling system or the engine will without a doubt over-heat, if they did run that engine without first putting in those tablets and any damage has occured such as a blown head gasket then that dealer is definitely the one who is responsible for it. (those floating cylinder designed engines will always over-heat and blow the head gaskets if those special sealing tablets are not used and everyone in the industry knows that)
If you have any problems with that vehicle over-heating then you should return it to the dealer that sold it to you as soon as possible, and if they gave you any kind of a hassle I would really have to question the ethics of that business.
