Might just be that the pesky ecu needs to be rebuilt. They were known to be failure prone.

No obd 2 since it's a pre 1996 vehicle, so its obd 1. Start turning that key on-off-on-off-on, to get ck engine light to flash out codes.

Rear main seal of engine is leaking. Tough to change....have to drop tranny and remove the flywheel, to get to it.

#1 solution for this is to " BUY A GM PRODUCT" & save your money on costly repairs of these chrysler & JEEP (amc) vehicles!

You will need a OBD 2 scan tool to retreve your code.If you hve not one go to a garage they will retreve the fault code for you.However you might consider makeing the purchase of one through a car part store near you.

is this a USA jeep or export? (immo differences) we do not know what turn over means. in this case you meant engine cranks fast and will not start. Changing out the CKP was a bad idle. 1 of 4 , engine, 4L (veries but unstated trans) must be calibrated or its wrecked at the first turn of CRAnking . So be ready for 2 causes of dead spark is that fun ,no. this is what you did wrong, if compression is ok. 1: check all fuse first. we test all ones that look ok. see? 2: then we scan it cranking, or all this is hopeless, see why? it will tell you why there is no spark, but you skipped step 2. 3: not only that but you didnt check the ASD relay. if its not pulling in the PCM is telling you why. if its pulling in and dropping out, then pcm tells you why. if ASD holds in full time cranking PCM is happy in this regard. there 6 to 8 reason for ASD to drop. one is immoblizer upset. if it starts using ether, it suggests a clogged fuel filter. You need to know what the true psi value is across the fuel rail. you can rent kit from major auto parts stores. be it remembered that many cars nowfays have 2 fuel filters- one in tank and one on frame or firewall. a quick check is back pump air through your fuel line till you hear bubbling. recheck fuel pressure and note diffetence. if it goes up you probably icked up larger debris on the screen.

How old is the battery? Older ones can get weaker over the years when they are under strain. Especially on a big V8. Go to a battery specialist and they can test it 'under load' to see if it's strong enough. When you turn the key does it catch, miss and die or does it just wind? Does it idle roughly once started? Please use the 'Comment' button below with the answers if you can Try putting a dose of good quality injector cleaner through it. Put the cleaner in and just let the vehicle idle for 10 minutes. That way you get a stronger cleaning mixture going through the injectors.

Have you checked the ignition switch (and wiring to the relay block from it)?

It sounds like the radio is defective, but check the fuses that power it 1st, if they are all ok then you can get a used working radio on Ebay, have bought them there myself with no problems, cost was reasonable.

disconnect battery put a test light between neg of battery and neg of cable if it lights u have a draw if so take out inter lamp fuse if still there put test light back on batt and cable and start removing fuses till lamp goes out then u know what cirit is drawing

Problem sounds like an internal pressure problem not a cable. If you are able to shift into all gears using the shifter, the linkage is being moved properly. It cannot "come out of gear" by way of the shifter.
In reality, if you were able to manually put the shift lever on the transmission into any particular gear without any shift cable at all attached, it would stay in that selected position forever till you got under there and moved it again. Depending upon what transmission you are using you may have a throttle cable running between the trans and throttle lever on the throttle body...this may have something to do with your problem but would also affect shift points. Any electronic shift controls are also suspect at this point. have it checked by a competent shop. In not being there myself, I can only offer my thoughts on what I would test going into the problem...after testing a better evaluation can be made. Good luck...Hope it's something simple.

Without running any tests, it is pretty much impossible to tell you why it would not start.
What I can tell you is that if the engine turns when you turn the key, the starter is good. Only exception there is if it turns much slower than normal and battery is fully charged.(verified again by testing). The starters only job is to turn the engine. Your ignition and fuel system is what makes it start and run. A thermostat has nothing to do with starting. If the engine temp is normal when running and you have not overheated it is fine.
Shops use a scanner attached to the vehicles computer system in order to begin diagnosis. The vehicle computer stores fault codes. Most larger parts stores will do a basic scan for free. have that done and see if there are any faults stored...that will give you some idea what may actually be going on. One item that won't show up on a scan is your fuel pump. If the vehicle stalls and you cannot hear the pump when you turn the key back on, that should be looked at.
Often when a pump begins to fail, it gets hot and binds. Once cooled down it will resume operation 'till it heats up again.
As i said though...Without testing I'm only giving you test options and a good guess.

Bare or burned wire, most likely battery cable or alternator cable near exhaust system which might be making contact with a metal part somewhere, off and on, because of bumps, vibration, etc.

no it doesnt ... check out heatertreaters.net if you have to replace the blend doors .... but the actuator is directly behind the glove box...remove the glove box take out 3 screws and remove actuator and replace.....waa laa

each gear has a mark on it from the factory that line up with a corrrsponding mark on the engine some times they are hard to find but if you look hard enough you will find them they all must line up there is no margin for error or it will not start like now good luck Lindz
