My 04 f150 had a rough idle and would sometimes stall out. dealer said it was throttle body so I replaced. The idle is still rough but it it doesn't stall. Could it be a coil pack? if so do I need to replace all of them or just find the one that could be bad?

Clean the maf sensor with electronis cleaner. check the fuel pressure. clean the idle air control valve. this requires removal of the unit and you will need a gasket when replacing. check the throtle position sensor for proper specification. check spark plugs and wires. replace if it's been a long time since the last tune up. check pcv. clean the egr valve. a haynes or chilton repair manual will help out a great deal with these procedures. they cost around $15-$20

Is the rough idle a miss or a rough idle? check the EGR valve if this is stuck open it will cause a rough idle and also cause the engine to die.you should be able to remove the vacuum line. if your idle changes Check the EGR control valve. valve may be holding EGR valve open all of the time causing problem. if removing vacuum hose from the EGR valve doesn't change anything remove the EGR valve to see if it is functioning clean it thoroughly with carb cleaner. you may have to remove the throttle body to get to the other side of the EGR port to clean the carbon build up out.

Sounds similar to my problem. Diagnostics said coils bad, O2 sensor sticking, MAS needed cleaning. Turned out to be a leaking vacuum line. Mine was the one from the PCV.

Rough idling and often stalling. 2002 Ford F150 4.6. Change the MASS no change. Please help.

What is the computer telling you? Are you getting "lean oxygen sensor" codes? (P0171 & P0174)
If so, the 4.6L engines (especially in the trucks) are notorious for the PCV hose assembly getting holes in it in the boot that connects it to the back of the throttle body. It will cause rough idle, engine surging and sometimes stalling.

Car stalls at idle (sometimes), and often acts like it wants to stall at low speed after the engine has been running a long time or in a drive-thru. Symptoms are rough idle, dimming headlights, engine...

I believe you have 2 different problems here. P0410 is the secondary air injection, which only turns on when the engine is cold at first start up for about 20 seconds. All it does is blow extra air into the exhaust to reduce emmisions. There are 3 fuses and items that run this system: Check Valve ($125), Air Pump ($280) and Relay ($50). Prices came from Napa, so I'm possitive you'll find any of these much cheaper elsewhere. My guess is the relay since you have dimming.

Did you recently have the battery disconnected? Trying to address the stalling while at idle. If so, it's your throttle body, needs to be cleaned. If you want instructions on how to do this yourself, let me know, will only cost you about $4. I know the dealer charges about $85 to clean this where I live, which is outrageous! If you do have a shop do the work, make them remove the throttle body to clean it, don't just clean the outside of it.

Even if you don't do this work yourself, at least you know the lingo and shouldn't be surprised.

Good luck!

P0506--idle air control system rpm lower than expected--check around where battery was replaced may have damaged or knocked loose a vacuum line- possible dirty throttle body clean throttle body check for restriction in intake air tube also clean" iac"---possible faulty pcv valve fix or replace if necessary--good luck
