The vehicle uses timing chains, which should last the lifetime of the engine. In rare cases, servicing is needed if the timing chain guides encounter excessive wear. Symptoms include rattling noises from the timing cover. Hopefully this helps!!

SOURCE: when should i change my timing belt or timing

Hopefully never if you are having to change parts like this you should think about buying a new car. I have owned over 50 different cars and only once had to do this and only because I was switching engines and needed the fuel injection off the other engine. Only Qualified tech should attempt this. If gear gets out of sink it could destroy your engine. If you love your ride about every 5-10 yrs if ever, also if you were to go to the extent of this you should Rebuild your whole engine from top to bottom. Choose your mechanic well, I would go right to Chevrolet they Know the most about their product. And you should consider the types of metals used. Thank You, hope this helps. If not please follow up.

Does the TrailBlazer have a timing belt or timing chain?

For all the Trailblazer's 2WD, 4WD, 4.2L and 5.3L they use Timing Chains.
However for Performance (racing) they do have Belts available.
