Hi it might be that the latch bar has moved a bit from its original position if you can loosen it and move it about ( or if you can move it about now it will need positioning again ) then after just test and keep moving till it sits in the right place to latch the door, if not then its a case of having to replace the latch as these are riveted type units and come in one piece hope this helps

Please help me solve this problem. When I close the hatch on my 1999 Jeep Cherokee it doesn't always latch so I have to keep opening and closing the hatch until it catches. Then when it appears to be ok, I will be driving along (possibly hit a bump) and then the indicator light on the dash comes on to tell me that the latch has let go. Of course this never happens when my husband is driving it and he thinks I am not closing it properly. This has just started in the last month or so and for the past year or more it has been fine. Any suggestions?

Hatch closes tight then opens

The latch is not engaging all the way. It temporary does than release part way. It is similar to a hood latch. When you close hatchback the l?tch mechanism is supposed to close around the pin and lock tight for some reason your latch spring back a little. Could be the spring or locking clip. Might need a new latch mechanism. Easy to replace. Car won't lock because mechanism is broken

How do you open the back door (no manual)

Rear hatch is locked or unlocked with a key. (if equipped) • To open the rear hatch, insert the key into the lock, turn it to the unlock position and pull up the rear hatch by pressing the handle (DOOR). You can also lock/unlock the latch (but not release it) with the central door lock system. • If unlocked, the rear hatch can be opened by pressing the handle (DOOR) and pulling the hatch up. • To close the rear hatch, lower and push down the rear hatch firmly. Make sure that the rear hatch is securely latched.

2005 chevy trailblazer ext back hatch lock is engaged and will not open leaving the door unable to close

Open the hatch and slip a screwdriver's shaft into the opening of the latch (simulating that the latch has engaged the metal bar on the floor of the SUV). Apply pressure in the latch via the shaft of the screwdriver. While pulling against the latch, operate the unlock button of the fob or unlock with the key (whichever your truck has). When it is unlocked the latch will allow the screwdriver to open the jaws of the latch and pull through them. The latch jaws should now be open and you should be able to close the hatch and have it latch and lock.

Handle on rear hatch door broke off.how can i open hatch door until i can get a new handle?

you don't. take it into a Hyndai Dealership and have the handle repaired/replaced. The rear hatch panel/cover has to be removed (from inside the vehicle) to access the hatch latch and open the door.. from that point the handle can be replaced/repaired.
