My Hyundai excel is stuck in 2nd gear and the gear stick just wobbles freely back and forth between 1st and 2nd gear positions, though wont move sideways at all. Can drive car no problem - but only forwards in second gear! Happened while driving - no warning signs/sounds from car prior to problem. Have removed central gear shift cover and checked the base of the gear shift mechanism - the black g/shift cable that controls forward and back movement looks as it should but moves very freely with no resistance from gearbox end of cable, feels like it has snapped or become disconnected internally. While the red g/shift cable that controls sideways movement doesn't move at all - as though the linkage mechanism (at base of gear shifter)was jammed - but I can't see any problem with the linkage mech - it all looks fine with no signs of damaged or loose components. So I guess the red cable has jammed due to the black cable snapping or vis versa - I don't know - could it be a problem at the gearbox end? I'm a novice at mechanics. What can I do? I would like to fix it myself if possible.

SOURCE: My Hyundai excel is stuck in 2nd gear

Easy problem. Check your clutch fluid (it is most likely low) master cylinder on the front of the gearbox most likely has failed, causing you to try and put it in gear, but then you broke the shifter cable. Easy fix.

My car wont start right away and that I need to push it back or forth to get it started?

From your description it is definitely the starter motor sticking in the engaged position! Probably needs replacing, either the release spring is broken or needs lubricating!

My honda civic model 2007 1.8 exi automatic key is not switching on

Most likely the gear stick is not detecting the Park position. Try to shift the gear stick back and forth in the track and put it back in Park position. If this does not work then check if the steering lock is not stuck. Move the steering wheel left and right a few times and see if the ignition key moves. Otherwise a trip to the mechanic.

1999 GMC Sierra stuck in drive. What do I do?

First off, set the parking brake, raise vehicle so you can get under it. Remove the shift linkage from the transmission and manually move the shift lever to park. Then try moving the shift mechanism inside the car to park and then through each gear (engine off of course). See if the mechanism sticks, if so, probably a broken tab on the locking mechanism for the shift lever in the steering column. If it moves freely, try the lever on the transmission back and forth through the gear range to see if it sticks. If it sticks, or you can't initially move it by hand, you have a transmission problem that requires trained individuals to fix. If it moves freely also, try lubing the cable with silicone spray at all contact points, especially where it enters and exits any cable sheathing. (spray into sheathing well) If both move freely independent of each other, it may just have been in a bind, put both shifter and tranny lever in park and reattach the shift cable, Then try the gear range again from inside the vehicle.

1986 ford ranger transmission not going into 1st or 2nd gear

If third, forth, and fifth work OK then there could be a selector problem. Does the gear stick go into the correct position? If so then selector and or other internal problem which will require removal

Jerking movements when in 1st gear.

Most jerky clutches are traced to weak clutch disc coil springs. They are mounted in the clutch disc to absorb shock, but can get weak and can cause a jerky clutch.
Could also be a broken weak motor mount.
