Could be the battery in the key fob needs replacing. Also check that the battery inside the fob is not loose and making good contact on the battery contacts. You might need to bend the contacts out a little so the battery fits tighter in the fob. Could also be a sticking button the fob. You can dis-assemble the fob and make sure the button action on the fob pcb is good. Otherwise the fob might be defective or the cars reciever is defective. If you have a spare fob try using it to see if it changes. If you get the same results with the spare fob then I would point to a problem with the car's reciever.
