Hyundai i30 Diesel automatic won't accelerate above idle at light

My problem is intermittent - the Hyundai i30 diesel auto won't go above idle speed (embarassing in heavy traffic) It seems to be idling okay, but absolutely nothing fom pushing down the accelerator pedal. The only solution appears to be to creep to the side of the road, put the car in neutral, and tap the accelerator many times. Eventually there's a bit of a cough, and the motor accelerates/ slows with normal accelerator pedal response. Can then put in gear and drive off as normal. No advance notice of problems like coughing, will just be idling at the lights and press the pedal, and nothing!

DOES THE ENGINE MIL WARNING LIGHT COME ON? WITH OUT MORE INFO YOU NEED TO CHECK MOTOR ON A CODE READER FOR STORED FAULTS, CHECK ALL AIR LINES TO EMMISION CONTROL, , SOUNDS LIKE YOU HAVE GONE INTO SAFE MODE, A SPLIT OR LEAKING PIPE ON THE INTERCOOLER IS A COMON FAULT ON THESE, IF YOU SWITCH ENGINE OF AND BACK ON QUICKLY WITH MOTOR RUNNING WITH OUT STALLING MOTOR AND IT CLEARS THEN IT IS PROBERLY THE SAFE MODE CUTING IN MEANING A FAULT HAS BEEN SEEN BY PCM

Testimonial: "Thanks.Didn't notice any engine lights came on. I had a problem free day today, but if it happens again will check warnings and PCM computer check"

Intermittent problem with 2013 Hyundai i30 turbo diesel. on two occasions last week I have lost power in that the revs would not exceed 3000 rpm (just under) and the auto gearbox would not kick down.

run the fault codes
on the engine there is a fuel control module that could be faulty or bad wiring or connections for that unit
kick down could be a faulty vacuum line or actuation control unit on the transmission

How do i adjust my idle speed on a 2009 hyundai i30 diesel.

Look at the throttle cable where it connects to the air horn and moves the shaft that controls the butterfly to let air in the manifold .
Even if it says its not adjustable usually is a small stop screw that you will have some control over how far the air inlet butterfly will come to a stop position .This will control the amount of intake air less air slower idle .
However you may have other issues .

Diagram of a drivetrain

A drivetrain on any powered vehicle is the complete system that makes the vehicle run under its own power. It includes the engine, clutch/torque converter, gearbox, transfer case (for 4wd or awd vehicles) drive shafts, differentials, and axles. You will note that the engine (diesel, gasoline, steam, electric) is only one part of the drivetrain.
