I have a 2000 Buick Century. I have replaced the cabin air filter, but I am having problems replacing a black plastic vent approx. 12''x5''. I can't figure out how it is to be re-install.Can you help?
Thanks for your response. I bought the cabin filter from O'Reilly Auto Parts they relaced the filter but the store was unable to replace the small black plasic vent. I took it to two other O'Reilly Auto Parts Stores and none could find a way to corectly install it.Thanks for your response. Dash vents usually snap in. Looking at the replacement vent will often times clue you in on how it's secured and the best way to remove it. The plastic vent is installed vertically in front of the air filter. The two slotted tabs on the bottom slip over the metal frame of the filter compartment with the hand grip resting on the cowl.

turn wiper on until straight up then turn off ignition.
Open hood and disconnect the hard washer hose from the clips on the passenger side cowling.
remove the 3 plastic screw/ clips that hold the cowling in place and remove it.
Check the cabin filter is properly seated .. (probably needs replacement anyway).
Most of type of these cars (GM) have the same issue with the cabin filter If the gasket wears out or it;s not seated properly or missing completely water enters through the vent
First, what is the problem that you need to replace the actuator? Is the air flow from the vents not changing? If this is the problem, the actuator is inside the venting behind the control panel and is difficult to get to but is possible. Follow the hoses on back of temp controls to the actuator. There should be 2 small bolt screws to remove to change out actuator. If this is for something else, let me know
Remove the cowling that covers the vents below the windshield. This is where the cabin air filter is located. Should have two popup buttons and a screw button in the middle. Once cowling is removed, you will probably see a 2' long rubber gasket that has come loose and is probably hanging. Apply some silicone to the groove in the gasket and replace. Water is running down the windshield and into the cabin air filter area and down onto your floorboard. This is a good time to replace the filter while you have it off. Hope this helps.
The cabin air filter for your 2002 Buick Century is located under the
cowl in the firewall between the engine compartment and the passenger
side of the front seat. To change the filter: 1. Leave the wipers in up position. 2. Open the hood 3. Remove the weather stripping from passenger side of cowl 4. Unclip the window washer line (two or three places) 5. Remove the three fasteners with an ordinary screwdriver (one is easy, the other two were more difficult) 6. Take out the cowel cover 7. Remove old filter 8. Put in new filter 9. Replace cover, fasteners, washer line, and weather stripping.
Do it about every 20,000 km. I left mine for nearly 130,000 km and it was filthy dirty. New filter costs about $12
