Are you trying to jump it? Or are you replacing the cables entirely? If replacing them, (Read all my instructions for the cautions involved) then unscrew the negative post cable first and then your positive side from your battery. Be careful not to touch them together while your are taking the cables apart. Once the battery is not connected, find the easiest cable to replace first, I think it will be the negative. Do not connect the battery yet!!!!, second the red cable indicating the hot cable will be next. That cable might be longer because on fords, unless I am mistaken should be connected to the starter or on fords an external starter solenoid. Connect that. Once you have replaced both cables, it's time to connect the red cable to the battery. Be careful that the negative side cable is not touching the ground or vehicle because you will see a shocking spark. Once that is connected it's time for the negative side to be connected to the battery black side. The battery has positive indicators (+) and negative indicators (-) may be color coded also + (red) - (black). DO NOT CROSS THEM BECAUSE THE CHARGE MIGHT BE ENOUGH TO BLOW THE BATTERY ( DANGER) I cannot stress this enough. You do not want to be around when a battery blows. They are dangerous. Use caution ok. Don't be that person that goes to the hospital with burns from acid.

SOURCE: Looking for a free online repair manual for 2004 Ford Expedition

Pretty simple actually. Sounds retarded but here ya go:

Unscrew all the screws visible. This includes the armrest if applicable.

Get a tool from your local auto parts store that looks like a small pry bar that has a little slot in the middle. it almost looks like the weed puller you use to remove dandelions. Seriously...you'll know it when you see it. This thing is a gem and works on ALL door panels. Slip it inbetween the door panel and the metal part of the door and start popping out the panel. You really want to get behind the plastic fastners if you can. Once you get to panel loose, you want to detach any electrical connectors from the door panel switches.

After that, use a little force to work it upwards to clear the door itself. the seal that is butted up against the glass is sometimes tight.

Do what you need to do and installation is in reverse order.

By the way, that tool is less than $10.00!

Good luck and post if you have any problems.

Hi:
The battery light is telling you that you are running off the battery, and you have a problem with your charging system. An easy way to check your alternator is to get a volt meter, and measure the voltage of your fully charged battery. with your expedition not running, it should read about 12.6 volts. When you start your expedition, it should read approx 14 volts if your alternator is working properly.
Of course, check all of your connections first, and most auto parts stores will check your alternator out for free, so they might have a chance to sell you one!

You need to have the battery tested and the battery cables looked at, both symptoms you have are from a dead battery or a defective battery or dirty corroded battery cables. Autozone tests batteries for free as well as other stores like Sams club.

I have a 2004 expedition...occassionally all intrerior lights, wimdows, radio, gauges do not work...found if we kick fusebox under glovebox it works....what do i need to replace??

Sounds like a wiring connection is bad, either loose or corroded. I would disconnect the battery, pull the fuse box out and inspect the wiring behind the fuse connections.
