I have a 2007 mini cooper I just bought and engine light has come on after about 100 mile's of driving

How many miles are on this vehicle? It might be that the trip meter has turned on. The MINI has certain preset service based on mileage. When the miles reach a certain number, the "engine" light will come on. Oil changes, maintenance markers (45,000-100,000) You will need that OBD2 unit to cancel the notice light. Probably should change the oil, check all other fluids, brake pads & rotors, etc...

Hesitation on Startup. Battery & Alternator are good. Fuel related? Spark plugs?

If you are saying it takes a long time to start the engine, have you checked fuel pressure before and after cranking ?

Oil smells like gas

You did not make any mention of the check light
& checking for codes & resolving code related issues
first?

Why would the water as you say--coolant be low when
you seem to be checking things?

The gas smell, check light & codes your about to get, may
point to a leaking injector & you will have to change oil &
filter as well when resolved

The front or upstream oxygen sensors should have been
replaced years ago at 100,000 miles

Replace engine oil and oil filter 1
Rotate tires
Replace engine coolant 2

Hello, according to Snap-On / Shopkey / General Drivers,
For your 2004 Ford Taurus:
1. Inspect Accessory Drive Belt 2. Perform Multi-Point Inspection (Recommended) 3. Replace Engine Coolant 4. Replace Engine Oil 5. Replace Engine Oil Filter 6. Replace PCV Valve 7. Replace Spark Plugs 8. Rotate Tires.
This is going by the general consensus from Snap-On tools and Ford Motor Co. Hope this helps :)

Chevy Check Engne light on for 20 seconds at start-up

If you have an 07 then you have a 100,000 mile warranty. If you are under that then let a dealer worry with it. If not go to Auto Zone and they will scan it for free, then you can better determine what direction to go. Good Luck
