More than likley it is bad and needs to be replaced, but you could try to clean it. Sometimes they get carbon deposits stuck in them keeping them from closing or opening.

Yeah, i had this issue too & I believe i changed the EGR valve but it came on again. If I remember correctly, i disconnected the battery & let it sit for awhile and that reset the 'brain', it's been awhile. usually those codes are accurate. One thing though, it's pretty common on a lot of makes, especially the Suzuki to throw a code if the gas cap didn't get seated properly.

The labor sounds like it is in line with the standard labor guide if your Trailblazer is a 4X4. I can only guess how the repair went from oil change to intake valve. Was the "Check Engine" or "Service Engine Soon" Light on when you took it in? Did they tell you that your engine has a misfire that will require the replacement of a valve to fix? If so, this sounds reasonable. Otherwise, I don't know what to tell you without knowing all the details.

I HAVE ALTIMA 99 AND MECHANIC CAN'T FIGURE OUT HOW TO SOLVE MAP SENSOR PROBLEM. HE REPLACED THE MAP SENSOR, WHICH DIDN'T HELP-'SERVE ENGINE SOON' LIGHT GETS BACK ON AS SOON AS I SHUT AND RESTART ENGINE....

He's right both and the code is the EGR valve. The car won't run with the EGR valve removed but it may be disabled some way. Most of the time EGR vales leak or the senser line stopps up. There's a small medal ine coming up the the EGR senser from the exhaust and connects to the senser this line stops up and the senser knows something aught to be happing and it doesn't so it turns the light on. Your mechanic is right it's not hurting anything but it makes the light on. It can be fixed but it'll not run much different.

My emission light came on a few weeks ago...what causes this...Money is tight & I'm taking it in in January for oil change can it wait? Or can I fix at home myself? I have a 2004 Ford Windstar.

if it is the check engine soon light,it is only a sensor telling you your van is not running 100% on fuel economy or pollution standards have dropped .no big deal you can fix it when ever.

2002 Altima engine/Catalytic converter problems

check engine light has nothing to do with oil level. Only the red engine light does. It sounds like you are burning a lot of oil and it is poisoning your catalytic converter. Your converter is killing itself trying to treat all the unburned oil that is coming to it. It will get so hot that it swells inside and clogs it up. Why you are burning oil is the question. Only 3 possibilities. Past the piston rings, past the valve stem seals or a plugged pvc valve and its hoses. Clean the PVC hose and change the PCV first. Changing the cats now will just kill them again until you fix the oil burning.
Autozone will do free scan test for fault codes by the way.
PCV won't show up there though.
You can buy cheap engine on ebay or at car-part.com. page with asterisk is lowest price.
