Fixed all leaks took radiator out and cleaned it out and put back in. i only put water in the radiator have not put antifreeze yet, will that cause it to over heat like that with only water in it.

Hi
The car will definitely not over heat because you haven't put any antifreeze in ,yes some antifreeze's also work as a summer coolant but you can rule the antifreeze out its definitely something else causing your overheating problem is your cooling fan working correctly ?
Hope this helps Nick

Have you bled the thermostat? Remove your top radiator hose from the radiator. Get some water, because you need to pour to water down that hose back toward the thermostat housing. Before you do that find the thermostat bled plug located on the housing. unscrew the plug and pour the water into the hose. when water start coming out of the plug tighting the plug. Replace the radiator hose and top radiator back off with water.

SOURCE: heating problem

If you changed the thermostat yourself and have noted that the lower radiator hose is cooler than the upper radiator hose, you may have installed the thermostat incorrectly or have purchased a faulty thermostat. A lower radiator hose that does not get hot (or as hot as the upper radiator hose) is a direct indication of a faulty thermostat. Please vote for this solution if you found this to be helpful. SOURCE: 2002 dodge 1500 Changed radiator, thermostat, and hoses. No heat

Why was radiator replaced?Did it have heat before ? If it was plugged, the heater core may also be plugged. Try flushing it with a water hose in both directions. I dont know why the botton radiator hose would be cold, the radiator should be a uniform temp and the air coming through the radiator should be HOT, when the engine is at operating temp. What condition was the old coolant? if it was rusty, the water pump may have lower flow than normal.

Heres a couple of things you can check. Start your car and remove the radiator cap,(before it gets hot mind you) when it reaches norm operating temp, look inside radiator to see if water is circulating. If its not moving, its a bad water pump. Also, youre hoses should never collapse, if they collapse when they get hot maybe you need new hoses? Finally, if those dont work, flush out your radiator. Open the bottom cockpit and use a garden hose and let it flush out the system while the car is running, about 10 mins should do the trick. If the radiator looks clean inside then it doesnt need flushed.

The water in my mazda bongo wont circulate top hose gets very hot while bottom hose stays cold , heater wasnt working but now managed to get heater working after bleeding the system but bottom hose still...

Check the radiator-it may have blockage. Take it off and turn upside down and flush from the bottom.
If the top hose gets hot, that means the thermostat is opening. The bottom hose should be at least warm, and quite warm if radiator flow is good.

The temp gauge goes from cold to hot in one min of driving and engin starts to overheat has plenty of coolant in

It sounds like your thermostat is stuck closed. You can remove the thermostat and test it on a stove with a pan of water, to see if the thermostat opens before the water boils in the pan.

My 2001 mazda millenia ran hot, we put water in it and it still ran hot does it sound like the thermostat?

If your car ran hot, you may need to check the radiator for a leak. You always need to add antifreeze/coolant when you add water to your car. Check you owner's manual for the type they suggest and the proper mix of water to antifreeze/coolant. I had to get a head on my motor shaved when my car ran hot and later I had to get the hoses replaced. My radiator cap died following my replacing the radiator as it was plastic and when the car overheated it damaged the cap. How long was the car running hot? You don't want to be a penny wize or a pound foolish when it comes to engine overheating problems. You can repair on the cheap now and pay a lot more in the long run. Also, in the future when your car runs hot, you can turn on the heater --yes even when it is hot outside--I recommend opening up the windows. The heater fan will help to dissipate the heat from the car engine. It does work. I hope these help. Also go to a reputable repair shop. It could be your thermostat they can have check valves which get messed up but you need to check to see if it is your radiator or if there is a leak there or in a hose.
