SOURCE: Where can I find a spark plug wiring diagram for 1997 3.1l engine

Normally the firing order will be stamped on the top of the intake manifold also the number one plug will be the front one on the drivers side of the car. On the top of the distributor cap you should see a number one that is where the number one plug wire goes follow the firing order on the manifold and go clock wise on the distributor cap

SOURCE: Same issue with the rough idle with a warm engine 4.0 Ranger

i would think a plugged fuel injector on # 6 cylinder could be the problem,or a big vacuum leak at that cylinder
a valve burnt/stuck could be but you dont see much of that anymore
could be coolant leaking into cylinder from leaky haed gasket but you would have to add coolant every so often
i would check #6 cyl. spark plug after driveing around a while if it looks new, ie no deposits on it then an injector would be what i would change next

SOURCE: I bought a 79 trans am but the spark plug wires

First youll need to locate top dead center, remove the first plug on the driverside, have someone tap key until compression blows out have your finger over the sparkplug hole while the key is tapped, after the air blows out remove the dist cap, then find line on crank and line up to 10 degrees btdc, look at the dist rotor # 1 on the cap will be the prong cloesest the where rotor points going counter clockwise, so mark side of dist, then install cap follow line you made to locate the #1 prong on cap start there that # 1, here a diagram with firing order and cylinder id. hope this helps.b5327b1.gif

I have a 95 oldsmobile 98 regency elite I cant find where the knock sensor goes I have a haynes manual but where it shows it wont go

Well, for starters, your problem got posted under 1985 Oldsmobile 98 - then you said it was a 95 Oldsmobile 98 Regency Elite (HUGE difference between 85 and 95)...then it would be REALLY nice to know which engine we are talking about.

I'll just go with what you said last: 1995 Oldsmobile Regency Elite (Two engine possibilities)

If you have the 3.8L Supercharged engine (VIN CODE "1") it is on the left side of the engine near the oil filter.

If you have the non-supercharged 3.8L (VIN CODE "K") there are TWO of them. One is near the oil filter and the other one is in about the same location on the other side of the engine block.

Please also note that MOST fault codes for knock sensors are not caused by the knock sensors themselves. (they do fail, but it is very rare.) Usually there is either a wiring problem to the knock sensor, or the engine has internal problems causing a "knocking" or "ticking" noise which causes the engine computer to "think" that there is a problem with pre-detonation causing an "ignition ping". The code sets when the computer has retarded the ignition timing as far as it can and the "knock" or "ping" does not go away....usually it doesn't go away because it is not caused by ignition timing. The knock sensor is just doing its job and reporting the knock. It does not know the difference between a knock caused by ignition and a knock caused by internal engine problems.
