There is a link which comes loose in rear hatch, the plastic clip get brittle and cracks, allowing the link rod to fall off. You have to release hatch from inside where you remove a few clips and screws to snake a coat hanger to release latch. That is what I had to do on a 2005, which I assume is same mechanism.

Good luck, FREE-PPV.com

can you tell me how to get cover off without breaking it

  • Mike OSullivan Feb 21, 2016

You have to grab with your fingers from inside one on both sides of wiper motor, there are two friction clips which will release when pulled, and as plastic is flexible, you only need to release it enough to get your hand in to feel if link is off, release it manually from under the latch and pull up. Do you hear clicking when you hit release? If you hear nothing, did you check fuse first? The actuator is probably bad if you don't hear solenoid click if fuses are good, easy to replace. Sadly, the seal around windows leak and water corrodes mechanisms.

I need to fix by ail lights but cannot open rear hatch. How can I access this frm inside

You can't. You have to get the hatch open. Pull the top trim off the hatch. Remove two screws , one on each side. Pull the bottom panel out and reach down and grab the rod or arm to open the hatch. Then you can access the screws to remove the rear lens. Fix the hatch since it is open.

2005 GMC BACK HATCH WON'T OPEN

It sounds like the lock actuator has failed or has a poor connection which won't allow the latch to release. What you will need to do is remove the inside rear hatch panel to access the lock actuator. Once you get to the latch use a flat screwdriver to release the latch being careful not to damage the glass.

2010 Hyundai Santa Fe Rear Hatch Won't Open. I already opened up the interior panel and trigger mechanisms are working fine. I think the latch itself is stuck, probably because I had my back window...

I'd love to know how this turned out as have the same problem with 2009 Santa Fe now.
Broken rear window has been removed but cant open the hatch.
I have removed the internal liner and all the lever rods are attached. A bit of glass inside the door and I have tried banging on the door to unblock it. Squirted CRC in the area and will leave until daylight and have another go.

My rear hatch want open from the outside nor will the glass open. I had it checked and they said it wasn't getting power to the door but didn't know what the problem was.

I had the same trouble and found that I had to disconnect the glass hatch switch. It is probably defective like mine. I had to release the door by going from the inside and opening a little plastic door and open the whole hatch by using the emergency lever. Then I had to unscrew the plastic panel near the glass hatch and pry it apart just enough to disconnect the glass hatch switch. It is just a small connector that pulls apart. There are two connectors. One for the back wiper and then the glass hatch so make sure you disconnect the right one. This allows me to use the whole door but the glass hatch becomes useless unless you get a new switch.

My rear hatch and glass hatch will not open from the outside. The only way to open the lift is via the manual latch. All the other doors woork fine via the remote or inside.

This is extremely common!
The micro-switch inside the glass hatch release is faulty, telling the door that it is partially depressed, thus shutting down opening for safety reasons.
You can verify this by opening the glass hatch (there is a access panel at the bottom of the door on the inside), removing the trim cover from behind the glass handle (two philips screws and one plastic push in fastener), then unplugging the glass handle.
Your door will now function normally, but without glass opening ability until you replace the handle.
The handle only takes a few 10mm nuts to remove and can be changed in a few minutes. It retails for around $35 from your dealer.
