My ac works good and sometimes it doesn't work at all.

I have already charged it and it was working fine. I notice if it's real hot or stuck in traffic or not moving. It does not work. My son said that it was over charged but it was working fine even when it was.

They won't work when over charge. Over charging it will freeze up the lines. It will work at first until the lines freeze up. Most likely you have a clogged or malfunctioning expansion valve. On the passenger side, mounted to the fire wall. A rectangular block.

Testimonial: "Is this an easy fix or will I have to change the whole Compressor? Also would it help to try and release some of the freon?"

You have to release all of it to remove the expansion valve. It is easy to replace, but costs about $35. The compressor doesn't need touched. Follow the lines to the firewall, you'll see the expansion valve. One bolt holds it in place. The lines come off after you remove the valve.

AC went out in 2011 Sonata replaced the compressor and if worked fine for a while. Now it works sometimes and sometimes just blows hot air. Where do I go next?

First question. How did you diagnose that the Compressor needed replacing? If you replaced with a new one and didn't need it ... Always find the exact problem before being a parts switcher unless you have money to burn. Sounds like a leak. Use leak detector in your system and either locate with special light and glasses or an electronic freon detector-sniffer. That is the first test then you have an informed decision as to action needed.

a selinoid controls idle speed when ac is on or off. check this first. idle should increase when ac is turned on.

Ac will not work in extreme heat

That's a good one what is the point in an ac if it can't keep you cool. Have you checked to see if the refrigerant needs charging or if there is a leak in the system. If the ac works kinda sorta or only if it's not hot out, check the low side refrigerant pressure and if it has never had a recharge and it's a 1995 you figure that's 14 years. There is a good chance it's low on refrig. Good luck and believe me, I feel it here in Calif this year already. It's BAKING Hot.

Ac compressor does not turn on when car has been sitting & it's hot outside. Works fine in the morning.

either the freon charge is about 1/3 low, or the expansion valve needs to be replaced. Freon is getting into the evaporator, but not in great enough volume to cool the air unless it is coming in cool to start with. check your ac charge, and if it is full, then have it emptied, change out the expansion valve, and recharge it

AC SOMETIMES COOLS

It is possible that the AC compressor clutch cycling is getting stuck in the off mode, this can be caused by a sticking expansion valve or a defective AC clutch control relay. One note u said u added more refrigerant to the system, if u over charged it you may cause damage to the compressor a $400 part and equal labor to replace, it might be a good idea to have the system charge checked by a shop that does AC work.
