This is potentially serious in that the vehicle is likely to fail regulatory testing. For further info search online for "error code p0180, Mercury"

What are the probable causes of DTC P0180?

that is the code for the fuel temp sensor. The sensor is located on the fuel pump and it is available seperately. You have to remove the fuel pump to get to it.

Question about 2005 Mercury Monterey 1 Answer Check engine light is on code is P0180 Are repairs expensive?

code p 0180 refers to fuel temperature sensor A--circuit malfunction====causes wiring---fuel temperature sensor---ECM
it will most likely be the fuel temp sensor so call the dealer spares to get a price of that part ,then contact a reputable spares shop and see if there is a generic sensor that would be cheaper
the cost to fit will depend on the degree of difficulty and the shop doing the job

My 2005 Santa Fe check engine light is on. my car does start but when is is started the check engine light is still on and well not go off. could it be the fuel filter cause my engine does jolt like if it...

Engine check lights should not be ignored and should be checked by a mechanic or dealer via a diagnostic tool as soon as possible. It may be a simple glitch but, it can also be logging a serious code that needs immediate attention.
The reason it feels sluggish is because when your check light comes on it logs a code, older cars need a couple of codes to register before it causes the ECU to put the car in to limp mode. This means it won't drive as well as it should and will lack power, this is to protect the engine from possible damage.
Engine check lights and other check lights on vehicles performs the same function as pain in our bodies.
When we are in pain we see a doctor, OK we can take a pain killer but eventually if it is serious we will know about it.
If we went to the dr, sooner we might have negated anything more serious.
This is the same for your car.

My check engine light is on, and today my temperature gauge stopped working and we have replaced the engine coolant sensor and the connector and temperature gauge still not working. PLEASE HELP

Could be the thermostat. I know nothing about cars but I noticed my 2000 Grand Prix temp gauge was not going to the normal level. My wife drives this car so I didn't notice it for a month or so. Eventually the Engine light came on. Took it to Autozone and the code came back as P0180... (1) low coolant (2) bad thermostat (3) enginge fuel temp sensor. They used a code reader that was about the size of an Ipod nano.

Coolant was okay, so took it to my mechanic. His netbook sized computer showed it was the Thermostat. He reset the codes and the temp guage went back to normal. Was short on $40 for the fix at the time, so I parked the car and promised to bring it back in 3 days. Went out and checked the car a day later at 25 degrees outside without starting the car... gauge still sitting at the normal level. No question it's the thermostat. That car will not be driven again until T.stat is fixed in 2 days.
