Check the Fuel injection system (injectors) and the intake manifold. It might also be wise to check the alternator as well as the starter coil and also the electronic distributor

SOURCE: 91 mazda 626 erractic idle surge when engine is cold

My '91 626 did the same thing. I tested the throttle position sensor, and it was good so that wasn't it. The other likely culprit is the Idle Speed Control valve, or Idle Air Control valve, which is a $500 part new (more than I paid for the whole car). I pulled one off a 626 at the salvage yard and got it for 3 bucks, put it on (it's an easy DIY, just 4 philips screws holding it to the intake manifold), however I can't be sure that solved the problem, since I haven't run the car much since then. It would seem the most likely cause, tho, and a cheap fix if you go used. Other possibilities: O2 sensor or Mass Air Flow sensor?

Why does my 1997 mazda 626 die after I rev on the engine once. There check engine light is not on

I have not had a Mazda but in cars I have had it seem to be something which reminds me of timing belt which has slipped a tooth. If your car has a timing belt and has not been changed at the recommended mileage it would be something to check into. Most of my vehicles have been GM and I have had to change 3 timing belt all before 65,000 miles. It never did any damage to my engine but as I understand foreign cars have closer tolerances and can damage valves and pistons. I am sorry I can't be of more help. If your car has not lost any power other than what you have stated it is probably not the timing belt.

2000 mazda 626 driving down highway then just dies.. timing belt or fuel pump/filter?

By you saying the engine "Dies" I am going to assume it restarts.
If the timing belt failed the engine would not start again until the belt was replaced.
So it could be a fuel or electrical problem.

Engine shudders and dies trying to go from a red light

The engine has an electronic module where the spark plug wires connect to. Replace this and you will see the difference. Once this module heats up it will malfunction. After cooling down the car will start up again. hope this helps.
