2003 Cobra: Began with a loud scratching/screetching noise

Soon after that the clutch pedal felt loose and mushy. The noises became louder, eventually the clutch pedal had virtually no impact in shifting into first/second gear. Only way to drive was to force into third gear. Also there may have been a burning smell, but I am not positive if that was from my car or not. When I finally got home/let it idle for a minute to listen to the sounds again it sounded as if metal was hitting metal.

Either the slave or master cylinder is leaking air into the system and the shift fork is not pressing against pressure plate to move clutch.

406 estate 2ltr very loud squeeling noise when change from 1st to 2nd gear ok once in 2nd and above is this the clutch ? can smell a slight burning smell when under the bonnet

Might be the clutch but unlikely if only confined to a single gear and it is usually possible to make a faulty clutch produce noise when stationary to help diagnosis.

If the clutch will transmit the full engine torque without slipping there is unlikely to be much wrong with either the centre plate or the cover. Problems with the release mechanism can often be felt through the clutch pedal and clearly be heard to be in sympathy with clutch pedal operation.

I suggest you check the transmission oil level and then look around for other possible causes if another "look" at the clutch produces no results. Auxilliary belt perhaps...

I'm gettin a loud screetching noise when l use the clutch in ma van any ideas wat it is

What do you mean when you use it. Do you mean when you push in the clutch pedal?? If so it is likely the throwout bearing is bad.

Hi, I have a chrysler pt cruiser 1991, it is making a loud throaty noise as I go up in gears, it's not the exhaust.

HI" does this noise go away when you step on the clutch pedal and does this noise gets louder as you go faster, try turning the steering wheel a little see if noise goes away that would indicate bad wheel bearing

Brake hissing noise

Sounds like it could well be the brake servo unit.
