4WD (low side) will not engage. Light blinks and buzzer sounds. Replaced the front actuator - did not correct. It is a 2007 Tacoma SR5 with a 6 speed standard transmission.

My 2007 Tacoma SR5 4WD has 65,000 miles on the odometer. Trying to sell it and when we drove it and put it into high 4WD everything worked well. When we tried to put it into low 4WD it would not go into low. The light would blink and buzzer would sound off but it would not go into low 4WD. Took it to a shop and they said it was the front differential actuator. Purchased a new one and installed it and it still does the same thing. Any help would be appreciated. Bill

SOURCE: The locking rear differential on my 2001 tacoma will not engage.

Form-a-gasket will work, just do not use the crappy blue or the clear, use black, or, if you can find it, the red stuff.

2001 Toyota sequioa won't engage 4wd

For your four wheel drive to engage, the front diff actuator has to go into 4wd and then sends confirmation to 4wd ecu which in turn engages ur transfer case (center lock) If frame was just replaced, i check the connector on top of your front diff and make sure its plugged in as this would be a definite cause. Let me know how you go.

check for 4wd actuator problem Check for power activation and check for vacuum line connection. Lastly check that the hubs are correctly selected as if one side has not properly engaged it will feel like there is no 4WD

4 wheel drive on 2007 4 Runner will not engage

There are several actuators on a 4thGen 4Runner. They are expensive to replace. The 4WD high and low and difflock MUST be exercised or the actuators will get gummed up and not operate. A good rule is to run the 4WD (all modes) for a while every month.
If they fail, they have to be replaced. The front actuator at a dealership may cost $700 to $800. The actuator on the transfer case that switches it to 4-Low could be as much as $2500 as the whole transfer case has to be taken out and rebuilt.
I *strongly* suggest having this done by a mechanic that knows what they're doing with 4Runers.
You've probably already found this out.

Engage 4wd lever. no light on. bulb good. not even sure if front wheels engaged. engage 4wd low. low engaged but still not sure if front wheels are and still no indicator light

Good Afternoon. We use these type trucks for our plowing during the winter so I am familiar with what you're going through. There is a fuse for the 4wd, and there is an actuator in the front differential. What you might try first is to get under the truck and pull out the actuator and then put it in 4wd if it moves out it is locking in your front end. Hope that helps.

You probably have a bad encoder motor. It is located on the side of the transfer case on the drivers side.It is black. The other problem they had with these was the switch but you have already replaced this so your next thing is the encoder motor.Hope this helps.Good luck.

4wd not engaging no indicater lgt basicaly no 4wd

I had a prolem with my 1998 Ford Explorer XLT. The 4wd indicator light would randomly start to blink while moving and when I flipped the switch to 4wd hi or low it would engage but easily disengage and the indicator lights would not come on. I was hearing a grinding sound coming from my hubs so I replaced both front hub assemblies and the light stopped blinking and 4wd hi/low works great now. it was about 300 bucks for the hub assemblies and only took me an hour or two to change.
