I have a 2001 Mitsubishi Galant. Yesterday I started it with no problem to go somewhere.. a mile up the road it just stopped running. I had full power as far as electrical, (lights, radio, etc.) But I't wouldn't run. I put in park and tried to start it back up and it tries to start but won't fire up. Today I checked the motor and there's oil in the sparkplug chamber. I put gas in the tank, thinking maybe my gauge stuck and I was outta gas. I checked fuses. The only problem I found was the oil in the sparkplug chamber. Any advice? I have to get it running again. I can do the labor just need ideas on what the problem may be.

Fuel pump can be the problem you should hear the fuel pump motor run pull back seat off and listen for the fuel pump located under access panel motor will only run while your cranking the engine.if no sound is heard might consider checking fuse or relay.coil packs also can fail you can simply check for spark using a screwdriver and have someone turn the engine, oil in spark plug cavity are seals that are worn normally comes with the valve cover gasket set.

If it utterly stopped working instantly, maybe the timing belt popped. If so, galants are interferance engines and itll need to be replaced because a piston would have rammed some valves. If it sputtered and just sounded like it kind of choked, might want to see if the fuel pump died

Just go under you hood and chang out the fuse for the fuel. When I had the problem i changed it out and it cost me $4.00 not sure where you location is so you might spend me but not much more I would think.

the left side there is a fuse fuel pump relay and on the right there is one called fuel system.
When I had the problem my ford explore would help its self when it wanted to start. Well I have kids that I have not time to Way for. Have a great time and hope that you have every thing work out let me know if It works.

SOURCE: faulty gas gauge

Have a 2001 chev and it does the same thing. It is a common problem. It is a faulty in tank sender, not the fuel pump. You can just replace the sending unit by removing tank. If you want more information please get back to me.

SOURCE: 2001 Galant..Shut off while parked and not it won't start!

That sound you hear, does it sound like it is coming from the back of the car, fuel tank? This is most likely the fuel pump starting up. I would still have your fuel pressure checked, if too low you'll have issues. If fuel pressure is good it most likely has to do with the electronics; does it have spark? Remove a spark plug lead and check while cranking the engine over. Also it is possible the timing belt failed, remove a dust cover off the cam, crank over and be certain it rotates. My gut says you have an electrical issue, such as cam or crank sensor. You'll need to check cseveral items to confirm.
If I may be of further service, please ley me know.
Thanks,
Tom

My 2001 Mitsubishi galant just completely shut down on the interstate a few days ago The engine control fuse was blown replaced in the car started for about maybe 100 miles since then I have not been

Take out the ECU and remove the metal case. Look for leaking electrolytic caps and/or a fishy smell. If you see any burned areas, the ECU is dead.

My 2001 mitsubishi galant was traveling 60mph on the highway when the car lost power and came to a stop on the side of the road now it wouldnt start

Check the alternator fuse. It is either located in the fuse block under the hood and is a block type fuse or is part of the positive battery clamp. If you charge your battery and the car will drive for a while and quit again. You probably just have a blown fuse.

Car just stopped (sudden stop) when it's running on the road.

You will need to Change the Fuel Pump and Fuel Filter and Also Check the Belt Tension. If it is even a little loose it will not Charge the Battery and could cause this problem also. Let me know what you find.

2003 galant wont start

Your timing belt might have busted. Mine did that in November of 2007.... I had to replace 2 of the 4 cylinders, along with the timing belt and housing. Total cost was a little over $1700.00
